(500 ml bottle, bought in Norway). Pours with a good lasting head, colour is black (= very dark brown to ruby). Very nice aroma of hayloft, some barnyard, molasses, dark syrup, coffee and German bakery. Flavour and aftertaste have interesting rich malty notes with some roastiness, but are unfortunately ruined by the invertsugar syrup which has been added to the brew. Must be another beer for "convalescents and nursing mothers".

Black with big light brown/gray lacing foam head. Aroma is bit sweet, some smokey notes. Taste initially sweet again, but slowly turning is some light sweetened coffee, some smoke again. Interesting. Sweet aftertaste again. (Velp 201406)

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in a Bavarian Seidel a clear dark-brown with reddish tones, close to black, coloured Schwarzbier with a generous two fingers tan creamy and dense foamy head that had a long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is mild roasted malts, faint coffee beans and chocolate, sugary notes. The flavour is sweety roasted malts, caramel, a lot of brown sugar, molasses, even light syrupy. The mouthfeel is creamy and a high sweety watery juice. This light bodied Schwarzbier has a dry high sweety finish. A decent smell, but what is the purpose of all this sweetness ?

Poured a nice dark black color, the head after the pour was huge, but settled down. Aroma was weak chocolate. Flavor was chocolate but overly sweet syrupy thick mouthfeel.

Poured a dark black color, typical of the style, but with a head that was very weak. The aroma was mostly of chocolate. Flavor was of chocolate and somewhat nutty like a nutbrown. Unfortunately, the flavor was way over the top and way too sweet (this coming from one who likes beers that are sweet). The mouthfeel, likewise was syruppy thick. A pretty bad beer, something that only has cooking potential. Heck, this might be something to mix into a dessert recipe, it's so darned sweet.

This smells like chocolate followed up by pills and ass. It looks nice a black appearance with a tan head. This is SWEET and WAY TOO SWEET. It tastes like you opened a bottle of Aunt Jamiama and just poured that down your throat. This is more like a pancake topping than a beer. Its leaving a coat of slime on my glass as if I poured honey in there. Im going into sugar shock! This is too rich and weird to be enjoyed. Should have listened to Heemer.

Very black body with a medium colored tan head. Aroma of roasted walnuts and some sweet caramel. There is also a little rotting pear and rubbing alcohol. The taste is extraordinarily sweet with pancakes and some apples. There is a tiny hint of roasted flavors. This is terrible. The majority went down the drain.

This is not Bier! I have to say, I cannot choke down a full bottle of this stuff. Very dark in color, and when poured, the bubbles are large and odd looking. The aroma has some promise to it, but on the first sip, the syruppy, cloying quality of the brew takes over, and leaves a finish between a gag and a gulp. Let me say one of the, it not the worst bier experiance I have had. However, this comibined with Wood's would be a great barbque base. And no doubt, it would be death on snails and slugs as well. Black Abbot, run away!!!!

This brew poured thick and dark with very little light getting through, and it had a chocolate aroma. Mouthfeel was creamy, milky, with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and vanilla flavors. Lingering toasty bittersweet finish. Rich and sweet, and would make quite the dessert beer. I believe I read that this brewer is having difficulties with the Reinheitsgebot authorities because he adds sugar to da brew.
