Muskoka Brewery is celebrating its 20th anniversary this summer with this special brew. Oak-Aged Cream Ale is a “re-interpretation” of Muskoka Cream Ale, the first beer produced by the brewery in 1996 and still part of the core line-up. The 5% abv ale is described having “the same crisp, easy-drinking nature of the original, flagship beer, but with subtle hints of oak and vanilla to highlight the sweet malt and floral, citrus notes.”

750ml bottle feom LCBO. Pours a 2 finger thick beige frothy head. Thick patchy lacing all around. Has a dark golden amber appearance. Has a sweet bready malt aroma. Flavours are mainly of the malt variety, toasty and bready malt notes. Has a little bit of the smokey oak hints but mostly in the finish. Has a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Not much of a huge difference from the normal cream ale.

Enjoyed at Beer Brothers and also purchased a bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clean golden-amber with an orange-like colour. The head is off-white and gives nice lacing. Fruity nose with caramel malts, a mix of oak and hops. There is though, a plastic kind of aroma, almost like paint thinner. The oak is mostly in the taste giving some woodiness over the caramel and resulting in hints of vanilla. The hop is a little strong for the style, overpowering the oak. A nice overall brew, when not stirred to not release the plastic notes.
