Deep red-black in color, with a dense chocolatey brown head. Hogsback is mildly carbonated and aged longer than other ales. This English style stout is richer, smoother and slightly sweeter than typical Irish style stouts, making it popular among a wider range of beer aficionados. Extremely complex in its flavor and aroma it will at once give you impressions of coffee, chocolate, molasses, hops, sweet malt, and silky-smooth alcohol. A big beer to brew, but worth the extra effort! This is Mt. Hood's second-most popular beer. O.G. 1.064/ 4.5 abv/ Magnum, Mt. Hood, Cascade, Willamette hops/ Four different malts and rolled oats/ Molasses and licorice.

This is the second and last beer I had at the brewpub on the mountain, and it was much better. This is a black freaking beer. On cask with a bubbly brown head. Coffee and chocolate dominate the nose with the roasted grains in the background. Medium body and soft and round. Very flavorful and goes well with my brownie sundae. A very nice stout to finish out the day.

Sampled on cask at the Horse Brass, Portland. Pours opaque black with a creamy tan head and nice lacing. The aroma has a hint of cocoa. The flavor is slightly bitter with with chocolate, coffee and some dark fruits. More chocolate in the finish. Medium-full body and lightly carbonated. A pretty solid beer and a must try at the Horse Brass.

Served cask-conditioned at the Horse Brass ,Portland OR what a topper of a beer to look at it is!.Black ,with small purplish hints round the edges and a fantastic frothy/creamy tan head, that stayed and stayed. Great aroma the roasty oats are very present among the dellectable aromas of black coffee and chocolate. The taste is absolutllygorgeous, the dark coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, black cherriesd, roasted /toasted oats..wonderful combination. Very smooth and silky on the mouth, improved somewhat by the cask. A great Oatmeal stout, one that deserves better recognition..superb drinkability.
