Originally brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia, Imperial Stouts are rich, thick and intense. Named in honor of our St. Patrick’s Day Piper, Ryan Sullivan’s Imperial Stout brings chocolate truffles, espresso coffee, burnt currants and the sweetness of sherry to mind. This is the classic “Cigar Stout”.

Bottle from slowrunner in a 03/2012 trade! Brownish black pour, frothy beige head, some lacing. Big roasted malts aroma and flavor, nice cocoa presence, heavy and near thick mouthfeel, some ripe berries, some molasses. Nice effort. Thanks Chris - I finally got around to drinking this one!

9/27/10 .. writing on the receipt!! .. . great head .. lacing is totally alpha .. . deep coffee/choc roast .. . goes down like a bowling ball from the roof, ..83,118,148,and 97, i think .. . good, enjoyable, but lacks complexity.. . really just to simple, and not all intricate , for beginners.. . i wonder what she's made of.. frozen water??

Big aroma of chocolate and coffee, Body was pretty standard as was the head and lace. Flavors of chocolate and coffee, with hints of nuts, raisin, cherry? and tobbacco. Overall it was a pretty decent Imp stout if not for a very slight metallic presence in the finish about half way through it would have rated higher, will try again someday.

Aroma is rich and smoky with a molasses undertone and hints of coffee and unsweetened chocolate. It pours a nearly black sable with a thick, fine-bubbled, fairly persistent cinnamon-tan head. Flavor is smoky and malty with hints of coffee, molasses and unsweetened chocolate, just a teensy sweet and just a teensy bitter. Texture is smooth, tingly, just a bit thinner than I expected but still quite good. Recommended.

About a year in the bottle before I cracked this one open. Immediately I was impressed and wished I had picked up a couple more bottles. Robust aroma of coffee, cream, dark chocolate, mixed nuts and dark cherries. Smells absolutely wonderful. Dark brown/black body with a lasting 1/2" brown head and supple lacing. Heavy and hearty, thick flavors of bakers chocolate and milk chocolate. Fine coffee, fudge, and burnt toast. Plenty of nuttiness alongside a milky creaminess. Bitter and balanced for an imperial stout. This is upper level good.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with large dark brown foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of black chocolate and lightly dry coffee with some side notes of tar is quite a treat. Taste is also a great mix between some deep dry black chocolate with nice notes of espressos and some subtle notes of tar. Very well balance and not aggressively hopped. Full body with limited filtration and great carbonation with no signs of alcohol.

BIG, chewy goodness. They hit the nail on the head with this one. They do "big" beers well. This has all the attributes one looks for in an imperial stout, nothing bad. One of the best, but it doesn't age as well as hoped. 4.1-4.2 bottle...4.3-4.4 tap.

Bottle shared by bfeldmann. Pour was full dark black body, ok tan-colored head. The aroma was full chocolate, some roast, piney hops. The flavor followed suit, bitter chocolate notes, though, dark fruits, and a definite full hop finish in flavor. Mouthfeel was moderate to full for the style. Decent brew.

Beer pours dark as night...some head and lacing, but nothing outstanding. The aroma is that of chocolate. The flavor is dominated by milk chocolate and sweet booziness (is that the sherry?). The coffee and burnt flavors are present, but not very prevalent. Not overly bold. It's okay, but nothing I'd run out looking for, honestly.

Poured a dark dark brown with good head. Aroma was all chocolate roastiness. Flavor was much the same with some pine and dark fruits in there. Not a bad beer.
