Pours a very thin coating of head and has a rusty, light amber appearance. Weak lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, toffee and mild resin hops. Flavours of toffee and caramel malts. Also some spices and resin hops. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Fairly smooth and slick sensation. Faint carbonation. Pretty good, easy going down. High abv but you wouldn't really notice if it wasn't noted.

Part of the Morland Variety 4-pack at the LCBO for Christmas 2013. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a frothy-bubbly, light-beige head with decent retention and lots of soapy lace. Aromas of toffee, mild raisin, nuts and some grassy hops which starts off sharper, but gets milder. Refreshing, but with some bitterness, but not too crazy. All balanced with the caramel, raisin and some light alcohol. Seems like the Old Speckled Hen, but smoother and with some fruitiness to it. No vanilla though. Still, nice and smooth.

Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)

Part of a Morland Christmas 4-pack at the LCBO. The beer pours a slightly translucent caramel colour with a generous light tan coloured cap cap that slowly disappears into a thin film. The aroma is grainy, sweet malt, and toffee. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly creamy and with average carbonation. Everything about this beer is similar to the Hen's tooth I had for lunch with the flavouring except the alcohol is more noticeable in the flavour of this one, and the colour is more red. Still quite good, but not as good as a Hen's Tooth. -

A dark brown color with little head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and raisin. Flavor is malty with more caramel, toffee, toasty notes. Aftertaste is dry. Overall I don’t know what it is but I dig these hens.

A lovely offering, last bottle from the shop and now how I wish they had more in stock. The malt profile and yeast influence really spoke to me within this true English ale. Decadent toffee, butterscotch with a healthy fruitiness. A kiss of floral hops and a nice soft yeastiness to round out this cornucopia of an offering. Copper body, filmy head and splotchy lacing. Mouthfeel is creamy and soft, very malt with a bitter after taste. Hope to revisit some day.

I had this beer at the Gingerman Bar in NYC. This beer was an amped up speckled hen. On the whole, I like the speckled hen better, however, this beer was still a great bitter if you crave the style as I do.

poures a clear dark copper with a little white head. The aroma is caramel malt, nuttiness, and general toasted malt caramelization, melanoidins, with a touch of floral and citrus hops adding intrigue. The taste is citrus and floral underpinnings eventually give way to toasted, bready, caramel malt. Nutty toffee sweetness adds to the backbone of the profile. The finish is lightly roasted breadcrust and a touch of fruity esters. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with nice carbonation.

This is the Old Speckled Hen, but with a small injection of steroids. Bottle says raisons, which explains the extra flavor and ABV%. About the same style (ESB/Strong Ale), but liking this one better. Rating isn't that much different either (maybe 0.1 higher), but it seems even better than that. After finally trying Old Speckled, I wanted to give that one a second sample..but now it looks like I might have to sample these both again side-by-side.

A rich amber colored ale with a big foamy textured off white head. Good retention. Settles into a cap atop the body. Biscuit-toffee in the nose. That appears in the tasting with hints of prunes. Most impressive is the feel. Exceedingly smooth and creamy. Very nice
