Super G is named after the experimental hop hybrid Super Galena, this generation of Super Galena was bred by Hopsteiner’s experimental breeding program in 2008, Super Galena is one of the new generation of "super high" alpha and beta acid hops. These hops have been bred to produce more bittering capability at lower volumes while not overwhelming the palate. Super Galena shares some of grapefruit characteristics along with a clean bitterness. Our IPA is combines the sweetness of cara-Munich malt and the bready notes of American 2 row to provide a counterpoint to the hopslam of massive amounts of Super Galena hops added in the last 10 minutes of the wort boil, a technique known as "hopbursting".

On tap @ MBB's tasting room. Mostly clear amber brown pour - darker than most IPAs - with a medium head and good, tight lacing. Aromas of Galena hops, then more Galena hops - not citrusy, more earthy - and some caramel malts. Taste is big bitter but funky clean with the Galena's slightly acidic and hint of grapefruit bitter coming through followed by and offset of slightly sweet malts. Different, tasty, worth trying.
