Our Rauchbier is made with a blend of German pale barley malt, beechwood- smoked pale malt, Munich malt, caramel malt and chocolate malt. It has German Hersbrucker hops added to it to give it some dryness, but not much hop flavour and it is fermented with traditional German lager yeast to give it a smoothness that belies its complexity.

Old review from June 2/2015. On tap at Ottawa Brewpub. Pours a thin layer of frothy beige head and has a dark amber coppery appearance. Ok lacing. Smokey aromas are immediately noticeable as well as roasted malts. Flavours are also roasted malts, some notes of toffee. Smokiness comes through more in the finish than up front. Good retention. Medium bodied mouthfeel.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber colour with a beige head and minimal lacing. Smokey malt aromas. Flavours of smokey malts with some light sweetness, wood and cereal grain that lingers. Not a bad grainy smoked beer. Good intro to the Rauchbier style.
