Julen starter tidligt her i Mikkeller I år. Vi har nemlig stadig nogle kasser Santas Little Helper Barrel Aged in Rum Barrels tilbage.

Removing the red foil cap from this winter warmer makes me feel like I’m opening a Christmas present. Merry Christmas to me. It pours thick and dark with a few floaties. It has a thick foam head that refuses to go away. It looks and smells like a stout. I smell roasted grains, some fruit and figs. Maybe a little pine. The taste is muddled. Roasted grains and coffee predominate. There is a little fruitcake and a lot of alcohol. The finish is warm and sweet. As I get to the bottom of the bottle, there is some fruit and spice. This beer reminds me of an imperial stout (think Old Rasputin by North Coast). It is good, but I believe that some age would round it out. I’ll cellar a bottle for next year. **************************************************************************************** 2012 update Time has not been nice to Santa's little helper. It has the aroma and apperance of a chewing tobacco spit cup and tastes about the same. It tastes like dirty chocolate and rubbing alcohol. Anyhoo, do yourself a favor and enjoy this beer in the year it was bottled. I won't, however change my ratings based on the aged bottle.
