This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Another in the Mikkeller Single Hop series -- This time Centennial -- Pours a full amber with some haze. The flavor is something to write home about. Each sip starts off for a burst of mellow citrus pine flavor, which then shortly descends in to a quiet zone of refreshment, which is rapidly followed by an increasing wave wave of after flavors which turn in to a 3 minute rise and fall of discordant and tasty notes. Nothing more can be said than that this particular concoction is worth the price and educational and is tasty to.

Sampled on 9/2/2011. This India Pale ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is malt, cereal, fruity, sweet, floral and earthy. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are cereal, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Medium bitterness. The hop bitterness is not as lingering, but seems sharper. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

nicely done and balanced. spice, floral nose, and orange peel all rolled into one. this one captured more of the hop characteristics you'd find with a hop blend ipa, and was one of the slight standouts.

330 ml bottle, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV is 6.8%. Theoretical IBU 56. Deep golden to amber colour, slightly hazy. Huge off-white head. Pleasant aroma of Centennial hops, notes of oranges and pine. The flavour is distinctly hoppy from start to finish, with notes of spruce, pine and grapefruit. Some moderately sweet malts in the background. Bitter and rather sharp aftertaste.
