This imperial stout is the crasiest, wildest, strongest beer from Mikkeller to this date. Not for sissies.......! Sample it fresh or store it for many years to come. Peak will be in 1-3 years from bottling date....!

Definiteley one of my favorite sippers. It forces you to sip! Hot aroma is an understatement. Roll it on your tongue to get everything out of it. In the end it can come off like many other imperial stouts but why does it have to be so hot? If I want to spend a whole night with a couple ounces of beer this may be my choice with some regularity, but if it's an imperial stout I'm looking for I'll reach for world wide more often.

Pours a real dark brown with hardly any highlights. Maybe, a little copper hue. Creamy mocha-chocolate coloured head, good retention and creamy-bubbly lacing. Very sweet aromas of dark fruits (plums, dates), caramel, hints of coffee, chocolate and burnt malts. Oh wow, such a sharp taste too. Kind of really bitter, like super strong espresso black coffee and grassy killer hops. Dry bitterness lingers a lot. Still, dark fruit notes. A pretty crazy, wild Imperial Stout.

Pours a huge frothy brownish head and has a dark black appearance. Pretty thick sticky lacing. Pours out fairly thick as well, almost like motor oil. Aromas of raisins, dark roasted malts, chocolate and molasses.. High abv is actually fairly noticeable. Flavours are a mixture of sweet and roasted malts, notes of dries fruits (raisins, plums). Once again, alcohol is quite noticeable, warming up your throat every sip. Not offensive at all, just definitely a strong mouthfeel and tingly sensation on the palate. Much more of a sipping beer.

Amazing looking beer for such a high abv. If the head stayed big a little longer it would have been a 10. Nice lacing. Aroma is strong burnt everythig and a little medicinal. Which should help unplug my left nostril. Huge flavour but for me it's over done. Leather, tar, soy booze and smoke all hide the chocolate, coffee, licorice and fruit. Love the full slick mouthfeel and the alcohol warmth. Quite a bitter finish I can see why this beer has such a wide variety of ratings.

    375ml bottle
17.0% ABV (as marked on bottle)
Queen's Quay LCBO Outlet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

Part of the 2014 Mikkeller feature at the LCBO. The beer pours a solid black with a generous dark brown bubbly head. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, and soy sauce. The mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, smoked wood, coffee, and anise. Finish is very bitter, almost rubber flavoured. Alcohol was well hidden, but not what I was expecting, and quite a letdown.

Black with light brown foam head. Tap in Kulminator, a very different bar together with Robert from the UK. Aroma is coffee and roasted nuts. Very smokey taste, very high alcohol too, good the glass was not that big. Great beer. (Antwerp 201309)

Having a little Japanese DNA in me, plus picking up some "Nihonga" from my father, I recognized the character as being Japanese for "koko" or "black." Because it's an Imperial Stout, I just had to grab it! Rich, nose-filling aroma is very smoky with undertones of molasses, coffee and licorice and a hint of miso. It says "Drink me!" to anybody who loves dark beers. The pour is even more promising - night black with a thick, fluffy, tan head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor - woo hoo, such flavor! Strong notes of quality coffee, caramel and molasses with hints of licorice and chocolate, rather sweet but not cloying. Smooth, heavy texture is somewhat tingly and syrupy. Crazy and wild? That's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it, uh-huh uh-huh!

A jet black colored beer with a big foamy textured, tan head rising robustly above. It settles in time into a thick ringlet and thick splotches of film. The profile is burnt chocolate, roasted malt and licorce. Thick, nearly syrupy. I like this style.

I had this beer at Mikkeller Bar on 09 January 2011. This is my new favorite Mikkeller beer. I was told by the friendly bartender Tore that "this is a dangerous thing" to prefer this over all other Mikkeller beers. Well I do. It is HUGE - thick as oil and bold as an Obama Health Care plan. This beer is just ever so boozy but in a good way - not a hot beer by any means. The nose is burnt chocolate and coffee. It is simply phenomenal and I cannot wait to have the burbon cask versions of this master piece.

Sampled on 2/20/2010. This Imperial Stouts pours an eclipse black color from a 375ml bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and a touch of alcohol. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee, touch of vanilla and dark fruit. Nice balance. A whole lot of alcohol, it really could use some bottle aging, but even young a nicely balanced beer. Nice carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a fairly noticeable alcohol bite.
