Definiteley one of my favorite sippers. It forces you to sip! Hot aroma is an understatement. Roll it on your tongue to get everything out of it. In the end it can come off like many other imperial stouts but why does it have to be so hot? If I want to spend a whole night with a couple ounces of beer this may be my choice with some regularity, but if it's an imperial stout I'm looking for I'll reach for world wide more often.

bottle said best before 3/10. Drank in 8/10. There was sludge on the lip of the bottle after opening it. Some crud hanging to the insides that didn't wash off. But then I drank it and was not disappointed. It was suuper smokey, but I'm guessing the juniper berries died somewhere before 3/10, certainly by the time I opened (bought) this one. Besides the lack of juniper it was an enjoyable Norwegian smoked beer. I'll take sunturnbrew before this, though. Hoping for juniper berries next time I run across this beer.

Smell the yeast right off the bat. Pure bread-in-the-glass right there. Then a really nice conflagration of hops and yeast. Loving the balance while also enjoying the relative heaviness. Candy sweetness at the front. The belgian trippel carries the middle. And the end is ruled by the hops. Easy to drink, easy to love.

I was super excited about this collaboration. Two of the world-class best. But I was not overly excited in the end. I like the sticky sweetness. I like the alcohol level. But it is only faintly Sierra Nevada (you can taste the trademark level of hops) and it is only faintly Dogfish Head (faintly caramelly, thick and heavy brown). It's 'meh' but no more than that I fear. I wanted more complexity, but it's not there that I can tell. Last one was aged a few months. I don't even know what to hope for when the next one is opened at least 6 months from now.

My favorite beer. Pours dark and sticky. Reddish head does dissipate quickly, but that's the only knock. Smell the palo santo wood right off the bat. Brown sugar/caramel taste throughout. As it warms the palo santo wood gets stronger and makes the beer stand out among its peers... although it's called a "strong brown" from what I've seen. I can't understand that. Far from brown, this is one I can see easily fitting in the "strong ale" category. What beer should be!
