Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish. Eye of the Hawk has garnered a cult following that is enviable.

Brown bottle pours a dark copper-red color with a nice medium head that goes very quick with little lace. The aroma is fruity with a hops presence. Mouth feel is weak but flavor is pleasant. The hops flavor is evident. at 8% it packs a wallop.

Nice hoppy red ale, a style rarely found or brewed in these parts, which I really enjoy. A good example, but also pretty standard. Prevalent diversity of cereals, floral and slightly zesty hops. Balanced in the mouth. A good bargain here too (4.99 for a 750ml). Will drink again.

pours a amber brown color with orange highlights and yields a medium sized light tan head with decent retention and relatively small amount of lacing. The aroma has lots of caramel malt, raisins, sweet figs and prunes. Not much hop aroma to speak of. Almost candy-like. The taste is sweet caramel and darkly toasted malt up front with some hop bitterness and earthy hop flavor is noticeable through the middle and the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to thick body with a surprisingly dry finish, a residual hoppy bitterness and a touch of toasted malt.

From Seafair BCLDB, in a bomber. Pour was clear copper under a foamy, off-white head. Rings produced here! Nose was malt and citrus. Flavour was malt, citrus, yeast, and alcohol. Good, soild and smooth mouth. Touch of caramel at the finish, with noticeable alcohol. Pretty good beer.

It pours a light amber/burnt-orange with 1/4-inch thick dark-white head and thick lacing. A fresh aroma of caramel malts, hops, orange-citrus, grass, and light spice blend. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange-citrus, bread/yeast, light banana, and spiciness. Very smooth and enjoyable.

Aroma is strong and very malty, inviting a taste. Pours a dark amber-brown with a thick, light tan head. Flavor is strong and rich, very malty but with some hoppiness and bitterness, a bit of a smoky hint. It leaves a tingle on the tongue and just a little bitterness. Definitely a superior ale.

I am enjoying this beer. Split a 6-pack with my brother in-law, so sampling my 3rd one now. The first 2 seemed a little better, so glad that I had a few on different occasions to get a better idea. Has a light brown to orange semi-cloudy appearance. Flavor is mostly malty, but a decent hop finish to balance out nicely. Not much carbonation with minimal head. For the price and ABV%, this is definitely worth the try. Will probably get again somewhere down the road. Wish I lived in Mendocino!

Eye of the hawk is a strong ale. But you wouldn't be able to tell in a blind tasting. At a whooping 8 per cent this beer is flavored and smells like not much but a plain old beer. Disguisingly this is a strong ass beer. Flavor is not much but just good ol' beer.

A really nice example of an ASA. Mendocino has always been a little hit and miss with me, but it seems more miss. This is probably my 2nd favorite beer from them. The aroma seems to be a showcase for the malts, as I got a TON of caramel and toffe but the hops do show up, even under the onslaught of malt. Light pitted fruits, metal/irony and floral. Flavor has some strong fruit flavors, caramel, raw sugar, alcohol and some really light undefined spices. Pretty nice beer actually.
