Picked this up at Whole Foods in Portland. Wasn't all that impressed but found it to be nice nonetheless. Nice nose, well hopped, with a faint yerba mate aroma. Taste is herbal, slightly sweet, slightly bitter- finishes a little weak.

I completely impressed with this, wasnt sure what I was going to get. It is like most west coast IPA's lots of grapefruit, but it has a cool floral, herbal, tea character whcih tottally rules, and adds a lovely silky mouthfeel. Light carmenl, crisp semi bitter element. Bit expensive for the buck but glad to have tried it.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden amber with a small white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is floral spices (yerba mate?) with some light hops and some metallic notes. Smells kind of like a gruit I made.
The flavor is a bit washed out with some chalky spices that have a good amount of bitterness in the finish with a bit of a weird metallic chalky aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a very watery texture.
Overall, this really reminds me a lot of the gruit I made...interesting but I don't really care for the strange chalky metallic spice bitterness. -

SJ BevMo
Aroma - standard piney angle, but very low keyed...floral without much character. Not horrible.
Appearance - crystal clear body, golden orange...nearly lifeless pour
Taste - very herbal, not sure what Yerba Mate tastes like, but there’s nothing out of the ordinary here. Light caramel, snappy hop bite, light apple juice too.
Palate - thin, seemed a bit undercarbonated...watery
Overall - Picked up a bomber of this and their Golden ale. $4 a pop, not really worth it. -

this has been on the shelf the last couple times i've made my way to BevMo so i thought i'd give it a try. big earthy hop aroma, maybe some nose from the tea too but it's ard to tell where the earthy hops end and the yerba mate begins. i was expecting more of a difference. that being said, this blends together very nicely with just a little more of an odd sweetness on top of what is a pretty decent ipa, good body and smooth mouthfeel, and a dry lingering finish. nice beer, but with all the great IPAs out there, i probably won't be getting one again. worth a try though.
