A classic abbey dubbel; with elegant sweetness, lightly caramelized flavor, translucent tawny-brown body, luscious head, and floral bouquet. A delicate balance between malts and hops gives way to hints of toffee and chocolate in the finish. Its velvety smoothness belies the 8% alcohol content. This ale can be stored upright for up to three years, in a dark, cool place at 42-50° F. This keeps the lees (or yeast) settled in the bottle. The yeast keeps the beer alive and protects it from ageing. You can drink the beer later: it will just become sweeter and feel denser in the mouth, much like an old port.

Poured a clear deep copper color with a tall fluffy beige head. Aromas of raisin and plum. Flavors of malt, fruit, caramel, plum, and toffee. Velvety mouthfeel with a hint of alcohol on the finish.

On tap at the Schooner’s Brewery/Restaurant in Antioch. It pours dark brown with tan head and nice lacing. It has a big ole malty aroma with caramel malts, mild roasted malts and prune and date fruitiness. There is an aggressive flavor from caramel sweetness mixed with fruity notes of dates and prunes covered with molasses. Yummy.

Pours a large amount of foamy light brownish head. Has a brown coppery appearance. Pretty thick lacing. Aromas of Belgian yeast, wheats, light roasted malts and toffee. Flavours are dark roasted malts, mild toffee, nuts and toasty malts. Very mild earthy type hops, also notes of resin and spice hops all in the mix. Fairly slick and drying mouthfeel with a mild warming sensation. Lively carbonation. Full bodied. Goes down very well. Very good stuff.

Dark ruby, dark brown with light brown lacing foam head. Aroma is sweet caramel, bit disappointing. Taste is just good. Beer was just perfect for the occasion snacking sausages. (Den Haag 201307)

When drinking this beer in a Belgium restaurant and pub, it begins to take on a life of its own with every delectable sip. I enjoyed this beer at Granville Moore's in Washington, DC. I tasted cocoa and raisins and a little bit of rum flavor to boot. The color was a lovely raisin hue that made the glass so much more prettier. I highly recommend this with your next order of mussels and frites!

This is an excellent beer. It's a dark blackish brown with little head. The flavor is very complex. Sweet, fruity, malty, some hints of coffee/chocolate. It's really expensive, but well worth it. Probably the best beer I've ever had.

I really hate that I am gaining a regularness about many belgian brews, they dubbels seem to be rarely unique and similair, but I suppose it allows more informed commentary on the individual characterisitcs of each beer. This one is middle of the road for a dubbel, but really a fine example. Candi sugar, roasted beets and sweet potatoe, yeast and sourdough, touch of toasted american oak and a trace of cherry. Some plum and taffee, well balanced, just a bit to thin with an element of sour that I dont immediately love.

33cl bottle: puts a hazed, deep cola-brown ale in the goblet...decent 2 finger tan cap laces well. Moderately carbonated. Aromas of ripe plums, roasted cocoa, wet hay and dark treacle. Relatively light bodied for an Abby Brun, but very pleasant drinking. Again the peppery carbonation drives a front side flavor burst of dark fruits, toasty malt, light cocoa tones, some dark treacle, licorice and vanilla. Finish goes a bit dry as the hops emerge to bitter things up...light alcohol surge (with no "hot" fusel tastes) at the end. Another very approachable Abby styled ale by Moorgat

Nice find at my local liquor/strong beer store. Beautiful clear copper amber deep brown pour with an abundant cream colored frothy head which is well-lived and leaves tons of lacing. Fairly carbonated. Aromas of ripe fruits with yeasts and slight alcohol, and a touch of floral and honeysuckle. Taste is not overly sweet with a light mouthfeel for a higher abv beer, a bit of caramel flavor with a touch of cocoa and floral hops that leave a nice slight bitter linger. Very nice starter to a long Thanksgiving weekend.

Poured a creamy, dense head over a slightly hazy body of dark copper hue. Aroma was surely that of an Abbey dubbel, malts and spices, and likewise the taste. Decent finish and mouth, yet not a top-notch beer, IMHO.

The beer poured a dark brown with a thin, rocky, light brown coloured cap. The aroma was yeast, caramel, and dark malts. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is dark fruit, toffee, dark malt, and yeast. A very enjoyable beer.
