Maltier, hoppier and stronger than regular IPAs, Double IPA is dry hopped with Amarillo hops for a fresh citrus flavor and aroma. Goes great with red meats and life in general. Does not go well with driving or machinery.

pours a nice orange-brown caramel color but the clarity is poor, it's pretty foggy, however the head is fantastic with excellent retention and is off white in color. The aroma is citrus, but some more floral notes along with caramel malts. The taste is much more bitter than I anticipated with some citrus on the frontend which is quickly followed by a little caramel malts. Great carbonation!

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy copper gold with a big creamy off white head that retains well and leaves a lot of lacing.
The aroma is some sweet bready malts, a little honey, and some stinky piney resiny hops. It's a little subdued.
The flavor is sweet caramel/crystal malt followed by a big resiny, tarry, hop finish that lingers in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, not a great DIPA. It's a bit one dimensional and not well balanced with a clashing of sweetness and tarry bitterness. -

This poured an orange color with white head. Aroma contains pine, perfume, orange, grapefruit. Flavor is a little bitter with some caramel and oranges, biscuit, and pine. Well balanced and good.

A deep orange colored beer with a big creamy textured, off white head. Good Hang time on this one. Settles into great lacing with splotches of light film aside the glass, and thick ringlet/cap atop the body. The nose is malty and flora. The tasting more pronounced on the resins of floral and piney hops. A full bodied IPA with some creaminess. Too bad I didn't have more than one bottle.

Aroma is strong and hoppy with a nice fruity overtone that, surprisingly, is more apple than citrus. It pours a dark, slightly hazy coppery amber with a fairly thick and frothy white head. Strong, seriously hoppy flavor is just a little bitter and a tiny bit sweet with an undertone of grapefruit. Smooth, edgy texture leaves behind quite a tingle and a hoppy, subtly sweet finish that has tones of wood and apple.

Slightly over malty for me. Citrus nose giving away to to the carmel malts. Pours a hazy orange. Mouth feel is full. I'm a hop head, so this dipa fell flat for me. But it is worth a try.

I hate IPA with a passion; over hopped swill it is. In this case I got to say I can gag this one down with some pleasure. Big on canned grapefruit up front, sand paper going down, finish that coats the tongue and begs for another swallow to kill the agony of the taste buds. Lucky for the drinker there is enough alcohol to make the effort worth it. If you like the style I am willing to bet you'll like this one from Mad river.

earthy and sweet malt, juicy hops, but perhaps not quite enough. a decent IIPA, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. pretty good fresh, otherwise skip.

Tasted on tap at the 2008 Bistro 2xIPA Fest. This double IPA pours a light orange gold color. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malt, caramel, and sweet with a touch of floral hops. A medium bodied double India Pale Ale. The malts are caramel and sweet, with a touch of grain. The hops are earthy and floral. Kind of sweet and a touch grainy, and there is another flavor that I can’t quite figure out. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Seemed a bit toned down for an Imperial but a good beer nonetheless. Pours a murky copper color with a moderate sized head and some spotty lacing. Grapefruit hoppy aroma with some peach or nectar in there. Not necessarily a strong aroma for the style. The flavor starts off somewhat sweet and citrusy leading to a long gradual bitter grapefruit hoppy taste. Slightly dry and bitter finish. Smooth and doesn't really bite hard for a DIPA but it's a good beer. 8.5% abv is masked. Solid price point and I'd have no problem getting this again.
