Amber colored IPA with a strong fruity aroma smelling distinctively of apples. Nice bitter hop bite as expected for this style was accentuated by a smoky note. This smokiness carried through to the finish and made me wish I had some bacon to go with this. (I love bacon smoked in applewood)

12 oz bottle. Pours a bright orange with a decent creamy white head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.

The aroma is strong melon and floral/grassy hops with a touch of pepper.

The flavor is melon, some sweet malts and some oak leading to an acidic bitterness that leaves a decent bitter aftertaste. It is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.

Overall, an OK IPA. It's a little to sweet and too much citric melon for me.

Darker amber color. Pours cloudy with a thin, short lasting head. A little lacing left on the glass. Flavor of orange and vanilla with a little spice. Mouthfeel is toward the full side. Hints of the wood in the finish which is clean and smooth. Nice IPA.

Very much "by the book", me'thinks. This IPA may have been something notable a few years ago, but compared to the current state-of-the-art IPA's out there (e.g. Hop Devil, Two Hearted, Stone IPA, Ballast Point IPA, Wildcat IPA, 60-Minute, etc), this seems to be a bit dated and tired. More in line with modern-day American Pale Ales than big-hopped brews that can survive 6-month ocean voyages.

Nice appearence, but with a head that vanishes way-too soon. No Belgian lace, either. Notes of Willamette and perhaps Centennial, but presented in such a way as to make them too reserved and "behind-the-scenes" for my taste. Couple all that with a rather ho-hum malt body, over-oaked vibe, adequate mouthfeel, and slightly dull drinkability, this beer is more boring than bad, IMO.

Amber color. Medium head. Malty and fairly hoppy IPA. Very oaky taste. Very hoppy and bright. Mellow flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter. A very traditional American IPA, bold and very hoppy. This IPA is much hoppier than Portland Brewing's IPA. They are the same beer are they?

Thin head with a clear orange color. The smell of oranges and vanilla come from this brew. Very full flavor of tangerines and some pine at first. Gets a little lighter as you drink it, but still has character. The wood is in the dry finish. I think that this is a very solid and underrated IPA. If you like the style, give it a try.

This was so tasty and so drinkable, it would be very successful session ale that would be fansastic with a crab/articoke/spinach dip that I would love to make. The lacing and head were zero/invisable. The aroma was rich and citrusy with plenty of oak flavor to not only round out the flavors, but add its own edge...interesting.

12 oz. bottle pours an amber colored fluid with a slight white head. Smell is woody, with smoked malts, and a subtle hop aroma. Medium bodied with a rich, creamy mouthfeel. Taste has a strong malt presence followed by a tasty hop bitterness. A unique taste here, definately not your typical West Coast IPA.

After pouring the appearance of this IPA is very average , slightly darker than the usual IPA ( maybe it was the Oak?)..small head that goes fast. the aroma is actually the best part of this beer..some great zesty hop..with a woody undertone..and a certain sweet scent. taste however is good but very subdued compared to other NW IPAs..its pleasant enough just doesnt tingle my taste buds. Pretty nice on the palate..not dry. quite drinkable but not top notch. Like most MacTarnahans products I can tell this is a well made beer with good quality ingredients

Damn near fine brew. I dont usually get up for ipa's but this was truly extraordinary. Very solid, makes a statement. The woodstock name throws me cause its from Oregon. They should call it wood pile or big timber or something.
