Feb 21, 2009 Lucky 7/11 S4LFTO: What do you think about the name of this beer; lucky number 7/11? Big 16 oz can, must be old; the latest ratings here are from a year ago. I’ve seen this before, but rarely, and finally I get a chance to taste this lucky beer. Date code 80512B3BR! This is cheap malt liquor at its apex. I am concerned before I rate because the last case of 16’s I bought from Melanie was that gag me Jaguar stuff. This cheapie is a little more alky at 8.2% and a little more expensive; 63 cents per 0.473 liter can. On the label it says it is slow brewed for a smooth flavor, heheheh. Also, it says it’s brewed by Drink Beer LLC; probably because the brewer wishes to limit its liability for brewing it. When poured into a big clear mug it is showing pale yellow lager with an eighth inch white head. Smell is sweet metallic processed olfactory. Woooo-wheeeee.... first taste is almost like gas laced 85 ethanol. I know what it tastes like because I siphon sometimes to fill the lawn mower. I’m almost alarmed when my pal strikes his lighter to light a cigarette or candle around this stuff. Yes a very alky brew that retorts its alky while spitting in yer face. Tho quite offensive on the swig, I find it to be less aggravating than many imp stouts and DIPA on the slug. It comes across with a dry holdem grain alky personality. Well, this is the first can, so I got a few to go. Gets difficult as it warms, keep er cool! Finish is stripped of any hop or malt, its just high alky rude beer. I think I’m catching a buzz near the bottom of the glass. I do detect quite a bit of that Melanie brew insolence in there, the same feeling I get from any of their beers. It is the repulsive gack in many of their recipes. This so called lucky beer material (not really beery) gets easier as you become a little more intoxicated.

A strong citurs aroma hits your nose when you open a can. During the pour the scent turns a bit "rotten." The taste was powerful and the dominating taste of orange came out. Unfortunately the taste then turns rotten in your mouth. If you want a cheap buzz it's great, two 16 oz cans of this 8.2% "wonder" will have you feeling good. Don't drink a lot of it--give horrible hangovers that take hours to get rid of.

This was one of the worst 8.2% HG's I have ever had. Found it in Chicago on a business trip. Not sure how old the bottle was. Aroma was very fruity and adjuncts dominate the taste. Unless you're a collector like me and need the bottle, pass on this one.
