Witches Wit is very light 4.8% ABV and brewed with Grapefruit, Orange Peel and Cardamom. The beer is supposedly going to be a “full release” to all of the normal distribution channels and will be available on draft in Southern California and possibly Arizona. Whether you’re a wonder healer, a caller of spirits or a lover of black magic, they will find you. And on that day, they will boil your blood, singe your skin and make a point to burn your soul to the ground. From that lonely stake, you’ll be left to contemplate your life of spell casting, obscure texts and a world operated between the shadows of night and day. Convicted of a dark art, the crowd will gather to watch as they raze your earthen existence. An intolerable pain is the cross you’ll bear that day as you are removed from this righteous world. No one will summon the courage to save you in fear of their life. It sucks. But such is the life of a witch. In honor of your fleeting existence, we brewed Witch’s Wit. A light and refreshing wheat beer, it’s exactly the sort of thing you might expect to find being passed around the center of town on witch burning day. Say hello to the Prince of Darkness for us.

oh my God I'm soooo offended by the label!!!! Yeah. not really. This was a solid wit for sure, if a bit overpriced. Liked the citrus and unique spicing used, definitely seperates itself from the pack a little.

A very solid offering from Lost Abbey and it was great to enjoy this on a warm April weekend. The aroma was a pretty typical wit with lots of florals, heavy on corriander and clove. Flavors nicely tie together pale malts, citrus zest, clove and banana. I would have liked a prominent pepper flavor, which is one of my favorite characters about a great wit, but this was a nice beer. The price keeps it from getting a higher overall score, as there are wits just as good but for a lot less. -

Strong aroma is wheaty and yeasty with a hint of citrus. It pours a lovely clear solar yellow with a thick, if not too persistent, white head that leaves minimal lacing. Firm, wheaty flavor has a yeasty undertone and hints of citrus and grass. Body is a little above average, especially for a wit, and the fizz is firm and persistent. I managed to get one of the bottles with the controversial image of an auto-da-fe. Could this become a collector's item?

Bottled. Hazy yellow colour with mediumsized white fluffy/foamy head, that leaves mild lace. Aroma is wheat, some US hops, mild spices and some slight herbal notes. Flavour is quite identical, but also has some slight notes of yeast in it. A bit thin in the palate, but otherwise it’s rather refreshing and nice.

Pours out in a cloudy yellow color with rich creamy white head. Coriander, dense soft yeast, and orange-peels in the aroma with notes of lemon. Medium-bodied with notes of lemon-peels, coriander, wheat and vanilla. Crisp finish of coriander and lemon-peels.

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a small pure white foamy head with minimal retention and some pretty good lacing. Aroma is sweet and somewhat cloying. Taste is also way too sweet for the style with honey taking too much place in the flavor profile.Wheat malt and spices are very subtle. Body is quite full with average carbonation. I would say this is one of the most disapointing offering from this usually fine brewery.

Bottle I think from bockyhorsey. Pour was ok for the style, hazy golden-straw colored, head a little on the weak side actually. The aroma was grassy, wheaty, slight notes of coriander, but on the lighter side of usual for wits. The flavor followed, but the grassy, wheaty, and faint citrus notes left me wanting more. Lacking in the orange peel and spice arenas. The body and flavor in general needed more depth. Not a great example of the style but ok. Thanks, Bill!

A vigorous pour produces a fat-two-finger thick, pale, just off-white colored head. The beer is an amber-gold color that shows a light haze and a bright, straw-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma has a solid lemon-like coriander character, a grassy herbal note, a medicinal honey note in the finish as well as a grassy, pale grain character to it. The honey character gets more pronounced as the beer warms up. A second pour re-accentuates the earthy, herbal notes of the coriander, but the citrus picks up a touch of sweetness (perhaps accentuated by the honey) that smells a bit more like grapefruit.
Lightly sweet tasting up front with a distinct honey flavor to it through the middle and in the finish. Grassy grain notes meld with a light herbal note, a touch of astringency and a very light bitterness; each of these notes provides a balancing not to the light sweetness and honey character. Very light and quaffable, though the honey keeps this from having a crisp, dry finish. Light citrus notes, that are more lemon like than anything, seem to hide underneath the honey notes most of the time.
The honey is definitely an interesting addition to a Wit; it definitely works with the traditional Wit flavors but I don't necessarily like the sweetness that it adds. Actually some more yeast-derived spice notes would help balance this beer out a bit more.

Tasted at Lost Abbey during the 2008 RBSG. This witbier pours a straw yellow color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is grainy and citrusy, mostly grapefruit. A light to medium bodied wit. The malts are fruity and wheaty. A touch of grapefruit, with a little bit of banana and clove. The hops are spicy. Light, crisp and clean. Nice dry finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and dry.
