A temptress that will seduce you, but leave your wallet feeling empty. Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts. (Formerly known as Bootleg Brown)

Dark brown with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate and toffee. The flavor is a bit dry with more chocolate and toffee. A bit of sour grapes in the finish. Overall an ok brown but nothing special.

Grabbed a 6-pack of this while in the Asheville area over the holidays. This reminded me somewhat of our Maduro brown by Cigar City here in FL. Malt is a little more roastier and heavier on the chocolate. Almost like a malta. Semi-creamy texture. I would look out for this one again.

Strong, malty aroma has notes of yeast, cinnamon and caramel and just a hint of molasses. It pours a somewhat transparent warm brown with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Flavor does not quite live up to the aroma, having malty, caramel and cinnamon notes but a bit of a metallic tang and a bitter undertone that is not hoppy. Texture has average body and only a little fizz. Well, maybe this bottle came from a not-so-hot batch. A decent ale nonetheless. Give it a try.

The only other brew I reviewed from Barleys. Nice beer, but pretty quiet in flavor. Not as complex as suggested. Sturdy, thick brown ale with caramel molasses notes. Mouthfeel is thinner than anticpated. Flavors fuerte, but a-typical brown.
