I had this beer at Mac & Bob's in Roanoke, VA. This beer was a tad disappointing inasmuch as it was a bit boozy. I expect a brown ale to be a bit smoother and a bit more subtle with the alcohol. Heat is the predominant flavor - at least it was for me. It was okay.

Pours a dark, perfectly clear copper with a good off-white head. The aroma is malty with very low hoppiness. Slightly astringent. Caramel and a bit of molasses.

A brewery that I had never heard of until I noticed three of their taps while sitting up at the bar at the Green Leafe in Williamsburg last week (their Pils, Tripel, and Brown Ale). While I’m sure the rest of their beers are fine, I’m glad I chose this particular offering.
Quite dark for the style, closer to what I normally I think of when someone says “Brown Porter”. Either way, this has a nice head of foam, and plenty of lacing as things progressed. Quite plain that this quite fresh from the brewery just up the road.
Both the aroma- and flavor-profiles of this beer were quite nice overall. Perhaps a little sweet in the backend, but never distracting me from the obvious heavy use of firm malt and old-school hops (Mt Hood?). Something with this much girth puts much more widely available Brown Ales (e.g. Newcastle) to shame, IMO. For I can see pub patrons downing this in their favorite watering hole 150 years – a lot more than Newcastle, that is.
And it’s this inherent authenticity that puts this beer heads-and-shoulders over many other Brown Ales I’ve had recently (from both sides of The Atlantic). Sturdy and yet quite drinkable, this one is a keeper IMO.
