Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

I am very happy i picked this one up.An excellent Imperial Stout.Deep brown, nice thin top, followed by great flavors and the backbone to balance the 10% alcohol.Well worth the price, and this one could be aged for years im sure.

I really enjoyed this beer, but that masses don't seem to like it as much as me. A brownish black pour with a tight creamy head. Cocoa and coffee are the aroma du jour, while the flavour isn't as bitter as others, allowing this to be an easy drinking Impy Stout

This is almost everything I am looking for in a beer. Taste, appearance, strength, etc. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the "perfect" beer, but only one or two steps down....for me. Not super dark black like most stouts, but a very dark brown- maybe small hints of amber in the color. It is pretty thick but not overwhelmingly dense. Taste is both sweet and bitter...hard to tell which is more. Maybe slightly more on the bitter end. Oh yeah, did I mention the strength? If you are looking for something in the 14-20% range this may not be for you, but at 10% I'd recommend only drinking one 20oz. at a time....or splitting one with a buddy.

Lets be honest here.. For the money and the style of the brew... It is a very nice deal... Smells milk duds and vanilla and some hops on the nose. Pours a rich midnight black with some tan head. Full body in this one with a very smooth and silky feel. Flavor a nice sweet and roasty chocolaty yummy thing going on. Vanilla and some smoke... A Lot like the milk stout but on steroids!

Okay, Left Hand delivers again. Deep, dark blackness in the color. The head, though is a bit disappointing. Tightly frothy tan head didn’t stay around too long but leaving some lacing. There’s coffee and a strong scent of alcohol in the nose. Thick, syrupy. The alcohol and mocha-caramel malt are dominate in the taste. Through the alcohol I could detect an ever faint bitterness. All in all a pretty good stout.

Comes out of the tap a very deep sable, just a shade above black. Smoky roast-coffee aroma has an undertone of molasses. Flavor has a surprisingly strong sweet component, as well as tones of roast coffee and hints of licorice and red wine. Smooth, nicely thick texture has a hard edge to it.

Sampled from quaternio. I am quite disappointed in this one. Both the aroma and flavor are far too weak for the style. A bit of sweet, smokey malts on the nose and palate, a touch of alcohol and that's about it. Not a BAD beer, just not nearly as good as I was hoping for.

Big dark pour but not opague and not solid black. Very little aroma, probably due to my stuffy nose. No head. Taste is big black and terrible, on style burned alky. If there is any carbonation, I can't detect it because of the over the top flavors. Finish borders on rude strong ale. Unfriendly and too much. Imperial stout charred wood alky linger.

Milk chocolate, coffee, toast and a hint of whiskey make for a very inviting aroma. Rich black pour, vanishing thin head and decent lacing. After a while the beer looks fairly "flat". Velvety and creamy with a medium thickness. Sweet then strongly bitter with a high alcohol presence. Big chocolate flavor and a hint of vanilla. Nutty along with some burnt malt and peat. A taste of whiskey coupled by some strong evergreen hops stand out in the aftertaste. This is good...just not great.

Left Hand I.S. poured a black body, turning into a deep ruby when held to light. A creamy thin cap, with a little carbonation left some lace. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Taste was similar with the alcohol dominating the intial sip, turning into a sweet malty body, and then a coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit light however. Overall its a pretty decent brew, I will have to try more of the Left Hand brew Co. products.
