i like this brewery, but this particular beer does nothing to seperate itself from the zillions of hefes out there. thin and pretty boring. ok at best.

The Hefeweizen pours a slightly cloudy medium to light yellow gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized quickly diminishing white foamy head. The aroma is wheat, some banana and clove. A light to medium bodied Hefeweizen. The malts are wheaty with a touch of cereal grain. The hops are spicy. There is more of a citrusy aspect to this hefe than the banana and clove thing. Lively carbonation. OK beer for a hot day. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with some citrus.

A barely above average hefe. Aroma is sweet with a malty background. Garnished with a lemon that was not necessary. Appearance was thick and cloudy. Mouthfeel and flavor was very nice and a smooth taste.

An interesting find, brought back to the Foam On The Brain (homebrew club) meeting this past Saturday by two of our members. And while I can't say that I can absolutely rave about this particular (peculiar?) Hefeweizen, it does have a few notable things about it.
For the most part this struck me as something of a hybrid Hefe -- the hop profile of an American Hefeweizen, but with some of the slightly banana&clove-y aspects that I look for in more traditional German Hefe's. Could it be that they simply used a German Hefe yeast, in place of a more under-stated American Hefe yeast..., or perhaps something more?
Otherwise, this is a pretty standard Summery Wheat beer, complete with the pale body, tall billowy head of foam (sans lemon, of course!), with a slightly creamy texture, and a clean and refreshing finish.
No huge surprises, except for the odd American/German-hybrid aspects of the flavor profile.... But, at the same time, no disappointments, either. An interesting and worthwhile shot at the style, that sticks out a bit from all of the other American Hefes out there....
