On tap at the brewpub pouring up murky mahogany with amber edges and full tan head with small mocha like highlights. The modest aroma pushes up notes of brown sugar covered ripe assorted dark berries and faint tart yeastiness. The taste has an initial smooth sweet pulse before prunes, dates and molasses roll this thing toward increasing levels of cherry fruit meat and tart cherry fruit skin. I get a mild sense of this beer’s immense ABV along with a ribbon of caramel joining the fun into the finish. It is a bit more tart than sweet and seems to attain a moment or two of English barleywine like qualities that I particularly enjoy.
