Pours a hazy red-amber colour with a beige fizzy head that disappears rather quickly leaving no lace. Nutty nose with dark fruit aromas and some brown sugars. Raisins, dates flavours with some nuttiness in the middle and pretty solid bitterness in the finish. Lingering roastiness and hints of caramel. A good Belgian strong brown beer.

Darker ruby red color with brownish foam head, lasting and lacing to (original La Gauloise) glass. Small aroma, caramel mostly. Taste is dominated by sweet caramel, some coffee, litter bitter. Longer sweet aftertaste. Perfect with meat dish I ordered. (Vlaardingen 201209)

330 ml stubby bottle, as Bocq Gauloise Brune, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.1%. Deep reddish brown colour, big beige head. Strong sweetish aroma of caramel malts and brown sugar, notes of spices and dark dried fruits too. Fairly rich flavour, malty with spicy notes, also notes of brown kandi sugar and caramel, but the beer is not too sweet. Also notes of dark dried fruits. Quite enjoyable.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Pours out in a clear reddish brown colour with a low and thick lasting tan-coloured foam. Dark berries, yeast, brown sugar, sweet pears, fudge and licorice in the aroma. Full malty sweet flavour of caramel, fudge, raisins, yeast and herbs. Long dense and malty sweet aftertaste of almondy yeast, brown sugar, caramel and fudge with hints of herbs and menthol.

Dark ruby red colour, big beige head, lacing. Aroma of sweet raisins and hints of malt. Flavour raisins, malt, caramel, hops and with some hints of roast. Very sweet, which made it kind of slow to drink.

Bottle. Great looking, clear, dark amber coloured beer, with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, yeasty and plums. Taste is brown sugar, toasted malts, raisins, lightly acidic with a slight bitter finish and aftertaste. Full bodied, moderate carbonation and creamy. Complex and very good.
