Based on a recipe from a London Brewery in 1890. Simple recipe massive taste. Dark, dark black. Oily texture. Loads of rich dried fruit and alcohol warmth rum and raisin. Then a herbal hop bitterness on top of huge lingering espresso. Hints of leather, tar, smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Roasty. Black small light brown non-lacing foam head. Aroma is little coffee with fruity tones, some rum indeed. Taste is similar mixture, nice warm alcohol drink. A warm beer. (Velp 201410)

Bottled (from the Kernel, London). Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, mild toast as well as some liquorice. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee, some ashes as well as mild liquorice and mild grassyness. Also some quite vanillaish notes.

330 ml bottle conditioned, bought at The Cheese & Wine Shop, Darlington. ABV is 7.7%. Pitch black colour, big to moderate brown head. Roasty aroma with strong notes of coffee, hints of liquorice and ashes. The flavour is roasty and quite dry, again strong notes of coffee, hints of liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. Good stuff.
