Sleeman India Pale Ale is the second in our John Sleeman Presents series. This ale reaches back all the way to 18th century England, where it was first brewed to export to thirsty English troops in colonial India. The Sleeman family personalized the recipe back in the 1800's with a brewmaster's special attention to detail, and now presents it to you one more time for your continued enjoyment. Tasting notes: India Pale Ale's distinctive amber colour is a perfect partner to its bold, spicy hop nose and slightly fruity aroma. This ale is characterized by a malty sweetness at the beginning that finishes up with an authentic IPA hoppy bitterness that's not too overpowering at the end.

The beer pours a translucent red-tinged gold with a thin white cap. The aroma is grains, metal, and funk. No hint of hops here at all. The mouthfeel is medium, bodied with average carbonation. Flavour is stale grains, old rubber notes, and some metallic hints. Not very good. -

This beer is crap especially for an IPA, Sleeman’s should be embarrassed. Bright pale gold body with a white film floating on top completely wrong for the style in my opinion. Skunk-a-reffic stench coming from my glass of unhappiness resting in front of me I don’t look forward to what the next 15 min will bring. Malts taste darker then the beer looks but are extremely sweet almost undrinkabley sweet. Beer has more resemblance to a Euro trash lager then an IPA. Skunk is noticeable in the taste and there is a somewhat bitter finish. I hate this beer and everything it stands for.

The aroma is somewhat hoppy with some slight bitter with some grapefruit coming through with maybe some citrus. The appearance is somewhat light-brown to maybe orange to copper color with a decent head on top that is thin and bubbly and off-white in color. The mouthfeel is light-bodied and crisp with nice hoppy complexity with pretty good balance with a pallet that is not too bad. The flavor is pretty bitter with nice hoppiness with maybe some grapefruit and citrus overtones and is crisp and refreshing with an aftertaste that is also bitter but maybe a bit watery with a finish that is crisp and slightly dry and not too bad. Overall, this is not a bad IPA and is pretty bitter and hoppy with overtones of grapefruit but seems to be lacking a bit on the hops. Nonetheless, this is a decent session brew with good drinkability.

Nice for an IPA. Probably because it wasnt too bitter, but still had a nice hops presence. It had a nice golden color with a decent head. It had a mild aroma with a nice balanced flavor without too much hops.

It looks nice in the bottle, it looks nice in the glass. A nice coppery gold colour. The aroma is not as hoppy as an IPA should bem nor is the flavour as bitter as an IPA should be. All in all, not a great example of the style.

A slightly hoppy, slightly bitter IPA with moderate hop mouthfeel, but plenty of floral characteristics. a little dissapointing to say the least, but not suprising, considering its from sleeman.

Poured a deep amber with smalish head and good lacing. The aroma was of malt and hops with hints of bitterness in the taste. The flavor was fairly refreshing. Nothing super but drinkable.

Clear medium amber body, sudsy white head. It's thick, picturesque and laces fairly well, but I can't get over this aroma. It stinks. The smell makes me think its gonna be all skunky, but the taste surprisingly wasn't. Clean and medium-bodied but with little taste to the bulk of the brew besides some slight sweetness. The finish is quite bitter and totally surprised me, even if it was labeled an IPA - it comes out of nowhere. Quite bitter and it lingers. I'm not really sure what to think of this beer - fix that stench, put some taste in the body and maybe it'll be alright, but currently its only saving grace is the sudden bitterness.
