This very rare and distinctive sub-category of pils would be the fresh, wild, herbed/hop pils. Unlike other german macro-pils, this bier is very distinctively herbed and often wild in aroma and taste, reminiscent of wild bay leaf, further perhaps bay berry, and a lure of fresh rosemary sprigs, a mineral taste briefly appears, just before a full-on-hops-straight-from-the-vine experience that lingers on for moments after each sip. The textured, sparkling white head acts as an excellent vaporizing conductor of the uniquely detailed qualities in the glass below, carrying the pungent and fresh character upon the air, in a perfume of luring fresh hops. This is the type of character in a pils that should be sought after, if not treasured. If however, although Jever Pilsner is not the best (fresh, wild, herbed/hop pils) in quality or elegance, it makes do, and is anything but pretentious. A standard to a list of table german beers for anytime.

Can. Colour - straw, clear, one inch white cap. Aroma - grains, light citrus, beach sand. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, good carbonation. Flavour - grains, some herbal and spicy hop notes, and again, maybe a little citrusy not. Pretty good for an inexpensive German lager.

Single can from the LCBO. Pours a light yellow colour with a big white frothy head, good retention and creamy lacing. Mild sweet aromas of cereal malts with the light Saaz pilsener hops. The taste seems sweet at first, but the hops create a small bitterness over it. No corn detected. Seems like a decent mild pilsener with nice hops.

A recent find at the provincial liquor outlet and featured in the glossy monthly magazine. Canned, and pours into the glass as a clear light gold liquid. Cereal malt dominates the aromatics with ample hoppy tones. The flavour is nicely balanced between with malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. Not bad for $2 beer.

The beer poured a translucent light gold colour with a generous white bubbly head that quickly became a thing ring. The aroma is grassy malt and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma, although the hoppy bitterness lingers a while.

A yellow colored beer with a big foamy textured, white head rising above. There's great hang time on the head. A thin ringlet but lots of film aside the glass are left. The general profile, a little lighter in the nose is grassy hops and bready malt. Pretty straight forward but pretty refreshing. Light, smooth and easy to drink.

Draft at restaurant. Golden yellow with decent foam head, looks like a real German pilsener. Small bitter aroma and likewise taste, short aftertaste. Still fun to drink this nextdoor to the giant brewery plant in Jever. (201207)

Pours a pretty clear golden yellow with a decent white head. Malty aroma has firm fruity tone that is mainly apple and banana and just a bit sweet. Malty, slightly fruity-sweet flavor is rather pleasing. Smooth, somewhat tingly texture leaves a fruity, subtly sweet finish.

I can see how this beer can get lost in the land of huge and barrel aged beers. This is a excellent example of a highly quaffable, bitter German pils. This managed to help ease the pain of another Raiders loss, this time to the Texans. Ugh.

The beer pours out a bright yellow color, crystal clear with a bright fluffy white head with really nice lacing. Light carbonation is also present. Aroma starts out slightly skunky, but after a bit of breathing the grassy notes really shows up. Body has a fantastic combo of lightly roasted grains and crisp German hops. The whole beer was bright and flavorful and I really wish that more people could be exposed to this beer because it really is phenomenal. A great beer.
