Kith & Kin is Scots for ‘friends & family’, which perfectly captures the spirit of this collaboration between two pioneers of our craft. Kith & Kin is a rich Scottish stout aged in Teeling Irish Whiskey barrels. Brewed with a big hit of chocolate malt, to create a flavour packed beer with dark chocolate, coffee and treacle, alongside delicious hints of vanilla and spice. A little barrel-magic means that the aftertaste is smooth, seductive and long.

Bottle in box. Pours a dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Mocha-coloured creamy head with good retention and a little lace. The nose is quite sweet and rich with maple syrup notes over the chocolate malts and some decent coffee. The flavours are not as sweet, but still the maple notes and coffee shows. Hints of vanilla. Kind of thin and nothing to out-of-this-world, but another decent barreled beer from this brewery.

330ml bottle from BCLDB Nordel Crossing. Not cheap, if you extrapolate the cost into a bomber-sized offering. Inky black pour, miniscule head, nil carbonation (just like ever other I & G beer!). Pretty good aroma, malty booziness, along with dark fruit - raisins, maybe? Medium-bodied mouthfeel, but I was expecting more substance. Flavour was less boozy than the aroma, and I'm not really getting any treacle or dark chocolate; perhaps they've hidden it a little too well. Nonetheless, not a bad effort.

330ml bottle from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy tan head that is fairly consistent and has a dark brown appearance. Some decent sticky lacing. Aromas of dark roasted malts, mild smokey notes as well as hints of coffee. Flavours of coffee, spices, chocolate, some dried fruit notes. The whisky notes are more prominent towards the finish, very subtle but still fairly noticeable. Also caramel hints make an appearance. Slick and slightly oily sensation on the palate. A little bit of a creamy mouthfeel. Quite enjoyable.
