Compliments of slowrunner77 - dark amber-brown pour with a slight opaqueness, no head. Aroma is strong alcohol and raisen/date. Flavor was caramel/malt/sweet and strong alcohol. Probably would have been better in cooler weather.

1993 bottle was tried. Not a lot to say about it though. Dark brown, the nose and the flavour are both heavily malty with a heavy sweetness in the taste. NOt a favourite.

Bottle, 1985 vintage, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. Dark brown murky colour. Intensely rhum-raisiny aroma, notes of oak and prunes. Intensely sweet and cloying flavour, quite complex but WAY too sweet.

(thanks Bov!). 1996 vintage. Dark amberish brown colour, not much head. Aroma is alcohol, raisins, madeirawine and slightly spicy. Also very ryeish. Flavour is raisins, vanilla, alcohol, spices, rye and some wooden hints. Aged well, and the alcohol is not disturbing, even though it's noteable.

Now this was damn good. 1996 version that kp brought to Ale Atl. Smells like butterscotch and soy sauce. lots of alcohol but mellow so it’s not offensive or overpowering. smooth, carmel , chocolate, Reisins. almost a chew tobacco kind of flavor but still good.

Pours a cloudy, dull brown with virtually no head. The aroma is alcoholic, brandy-like. The flavor is big and bursting. A flavor like sweet, overripe oranges comes out first followed by something reminiscent of my mom''s lemon cheesecake squares, then caramel brownies and finally a bit of hazelnut coffee. Unfortunately, it''s also syrupy and cloying, making it much less pleasurable to drink it should.

1994 Vintage - Beautiful dark copper color with no head - looks like a nice glass of aged brandy. Aroma is of dark malts joined with rich raisin and maple notes. Silky, syrupy mouthfeel - feels heavy. Flavor is hugely malty and sweet to start with and towards the end gains some bitter chocolate notes and a warming, raisiny alcohol finish. Like raisins soaked for weeks in alcohol. Excellent in every aspect and has charisma inside and outside the bottle. World class.

1996 Vintage. Dark brown color. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is brown sugar and molasses, very sweet. Full bodied dopplebock. Very sweet. Lots of brown sugar and molasses. Lots of dark fruit flavors as well. Lots of alcohol as well. Sort of all mixed together into a very sweet, very smooth, high alcohol beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and very smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with some alcohol. Thanks to KP for sharing this one.

1988 vintage sampled at SoCal Tasting 11/9/03. Deep brown brew with no carbonation.Toffee, malt and caramel swirl on your tongue with only the slightest hints of alcohol warming your mouth. This is a beer that demands aging and pays off with an incredible drinking experience.

vintage 1996. Thanks to whomever left it at my house during the RB party of 2003. pours dark brown with a thin yellow head. the flavor is sticky sweet, but not cloying. The aroma has the sweetness of liquers. A great sipping beer.
