Farmstead® India Pale Ale Brewed and Dry-Hopped with Motueka Hops and Aged in Puncheons. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Self-Reliance” inspires and compels our persistent reflection, examination, and refinement. From our ongoing pursuit of unique and personally selected hops to our steady quest after refinement and the individualized expression of elegance in all of our beers, Emerson’s urging to “insist on yourself; never imitate” provides motivation towards greater self-exploration, self-expression, and self-realization. To that end, we present you a reimagining of our Self-Reliance series—once our exploratory pale ales, now our Farmstead® single hop India pale ales featuring varieties of our own selection. This new series allows us to showcase each hop’s characteristics within the framework of our delicately tart, lightly effervescent base beer. The first installment: Self-Reliance: Motueka, features personally selected Motueka™ hops from Freestyle Farms—our agricultural partner in Upper Moutere, New Zealand—and was conditioned in oak puncheons for 3 months.

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8
750ml bottle from the brewery, pouring a mildly hazed, light-golden colour with a white cap, good stay and foamy-creamy streaks of lacing. Nice fresh, lemon-lime zest aromas with some grassiness, and some good barrel funkiness. This continues into the taste, with lots of lime notes, some decent sourness and hints of herbal-grassy flavours. Some nice coriander and medicinal notes do come out in the nose - all blending very well. A nice barrelled IPA with the Motueka hop shinning.
