Farmstead India Pale Ale Brewed with Motueka Hops, Organic Lime, and Phantasm Thiol. Powder Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Self-Reliance” inspires and compels our persistent reflection, examination, and refinement. From our ongoing pursuit of unique and personally selected hops to our steady quest after refinement and the individualized expression of elegance in all of our beers, Emerson’s urging to “insist on yourself; never imitate” provides motivation towards greater self-exploration, self-expression, and self-realization. To that end, we present you a reimagining of our Self-Reliance series—once our exploratory pale ales, now our Farmstead® single hop India pale ales featuring varieties of our own selection. This new series allows us to showcase each hop’s characteristics within the framework of our delicately tart, lightly effervescent base beer. This novel variation of our Farmstead® single-hop India pale ales was brewed in March 2024 with organic lime juice and Phantasm Thiol Powder and dry-hopped with hand-selected Motueka™ hops grown by Freestyle Farm— our agricultural partner in Upper Moutere, New Zealand. Phantasm is made from Marlborough, New Zealand, Sauvignon Blanc grape skins, enhancing strong tropical fruit aromas during fermentation.

750ml bottle from the brewery, pouring a fairly clean, golden colour with very tiny-bubble carbonation, looking like a fine sparkling. The head is big, creamy, warm-white, very good retention and thick, creamy lacing left. Beautiful fresh lime zest aromas with some funkiness, earthiness and sourness. The mouthfeel is on the thin side with a tad tart-dryness. The Phantasm grape powder comes out a little more in the taste with the rest of the wild yeast, blended with some citrus notes, adding the lime sour notes lingering. Gets hazier as it pours, and the last pour is very hazy, with small particles in the glass. Quite a fresh, refreshing, funky, sour, white-winish, citrusy beer.
