Sampled on 7/2/2010. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a medium brown color from a .5l bottle, Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet. A medium bodied BSA. The malts are fruity and sweet, touch of caramel. The hops are earthy and herbal. The carbonation seems a little light. There is a slightly tart/sour funkiness here as well as some iced tea. Nice herbal finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

an "amber ale" listed as a BSA on ratebeer for some reason, but listed as a wood-aged double ipa on the breweries site. kind of a poor example of any of the three. a little fruity, no belgian aspects. the wood either mutes the hops too much, there's not enough, or it's a little old. an ok beer that i wouldn't seek out.

Aroma - lots of caramel in the aroma, almost exclusively. After it warmed up, I got some strange banana ice cream aroma.
Appearance - rusted red/brown body, clear with fat beige head.
Taste - lots of caramel in the flavor too, some banana, light vanilla and light earthy/oaky notes.
Palate - Seemed on the thin side with a touch of over-carbonation, finishes dry...reminded me of seltzer water on the finish
Overall - just a so-so BSA, nothing really to note. Not bad for $3.49 a bottle. More of a dunkelweizen than a BSA though.
