Pours a clear coppery amber with a very thick buff head. Aroma has malty core and firm fruity notes, pear and apple with a cherry hint, as well as a subtle woody note. Bold flavor surprises with a strong joppy tone, woody and a little evergreen, plus fruity and malty notes. Alcohol nip is strong but not fierce. Firm, ragged mouthfeel leaves a woody and fruity finish. A heavenly brew.

I would much rather prefer the regular R.I.P.A over this. Bottle said collaboration with Cathedral Square from St. Louis. Usually love Belgian Pale Ales and DIPAs...as well as regular Belgian-style IPAs...just thinking the Belgian Double IPA didn't work quite as well. Either that or the collaboration might have lowered the quality just a bit. Still solid beer and enjoyable, so it could be a different yeast strain or something giving it that unique flavor. Received in a gift/variety pack on clearance (8 beers for $10...mostly 8% and one 17% Jewbulation 17). Now that I've tried a couple variations of the R.I.P.A, I am ready to get a 4-pack of the regular R.I.PA since I only sampled one a couple years ago.

Orange amber in color with a very big fluffy textured, off white head rising robustly above. Great hang time on the head. A light dusting of film and medium ringlet are left. Biscuit and rye malts, fruity apple and caramelized brown sugar in the nose. The hops and spicy rye are dominate and upfront in the tasting . The burnt sugar sweetens everything up. Full bodied and oily slick on the tongue

Not your normal DIPA for sure. Spicy rye, earthy hop bitterness and Belgian yeast in aroma and flavor. The spicy, peppery notes from the yeast seem to detract too much from the hops and rye. Interesting take on the style.

A clear rich amber body with a fluffy looking off white head that leaves thick rings of lace behind as it settles.Belgian yeasts and citric hops dominate the nose,it's very yeasty but with a nice American hop element.Yeasty spiced phenols hit hard up front on with a big shot of citric hops coming later, the yeasty phenols blend well with the sweet DIPA,the spicy rye lingers for a while. It's solid especially for a collaboration brew.
