Orach Slie (or “Golden Nectar”) is a variant of Schiehallion Craft Lager matured in casks from the multi-award-winning, family-owned Glenfarclas Distillery. In contrast to the punchy, dark Ola Dubhs aged in casks from the wild isles of Orkney, Orach Slie is a much lighter, easy-going beer that reflects the softer, sweeter malts of Glenfarclas which nestles in the rolling Speyside moors of Banffshire. Having trialled a variety of different beers, the brewers settled on a lightly-hopped, high-abv version of Schiehallion to perfectly complement the classic, honeyed-sherry malts of Glenfarclas. Orach Slie pours a light straw colour and immediately displays a delicate malty character on the nose. It has a surprisingly robust, chewy mouthfeel that belies its light appearance, coating the palate with gentle-sweetness which in turn gives way to a pleasantly-bitter, drying (and slightly tangy) finish.

Taps hazy dark apricot with a frothy eggshell head. Pear, mango and a hint of peach dominate the aroma but let a bit of malt through. Flavor rolls bold woody, whisky and fruity tones across the palate. Awesome! Mouthfeel features firm body and fizz, leading up to a woody and fruity finish.

Clear pale yellow. Light barley aroma, light in taste. May be served bit too warm, did not spot too much of the barrel aging. Bit overprized I think. (Amsterdam 201511)

Yellow colour pour without much head or lace. The aroma and flavour has whisky, fruit and a bold sweet malt background. Nice twist to a larger although I won't be buying again.

The beer pours a translucent light gold with a bubbly white head. The aroma is light fruits, grains, and alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is whiskey, with a backdrop of grains and hops. If I wanmted whiskey, I would have poured myself whiskey.....
