India Pale Ale (IPA) is brewed to a lower original gravity and this beer undergoes a similar process of maturation to the Blue Label. The result is a lighter, more mellow ale with a distinctive hop character.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7
Cask halfpint at The White Hart (a Harvey’s pub), Crawley. ABV 3.5%. Deep golden color, no head. Minimal aroma. Fairly dry flavour, some tingling fruity and herbal English hops make the beer quite drinkable, but this is not an IPA (neither historical nor modern) by any stretch of the mind. 2nd rating: 500 ml bottle, from Seven Cellars. ABV is 3.5%. Clear copper colour, moderate white head. Moderate but nice aroma of malts, toffee and a faint hint of dark berries. Light bodied as expected, but not too bad for its low ABV. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, and has the same elements as the aroma, also some nutty hints, with moderate but noticeable earthy hops in the finish. A decent ordinary bitter, but certainly no IPA.
