Sampled on 9/19.2010. This scotch ale pours a dark black color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized tan foamy head. The aroma is caramel, sweet, some peat and bready. A medium bodied scotch ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, touch of peat and some cherry. The hops are herbal and earthy. Little to no carbonation. Fairly sweet, but not cloying. A little light in the peat flavors, but drinkable. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

22 oz bottle. Pours brown with no head at all other than a few bubbles after a very vigorous pour.

The aroma is sweet peaty caramel and toffee with a bit of smoke and molasses and nuts. As it warms some vegetal notes come out.

The flavor is sweet peaty nutty caramel and toffee malts with some chocolate and a touch of fruits and smoke. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with very low carbonation.

Overall, this didn't have much carbonation like the other Grand Lake beers that I purchased from the brewery. Unlike the others, this hold up pretty nicely. It's got some great flavors for a Scotch ale - a good balance of peat, smoke and sweet caramel without being overly sweet.

Hope I had a bad Bottle because this brew was a mess to me. I found the nose to be moldy at best. No head on the pour and a very see through brownish color. Mouth feel was fine but the finish was thin. It really taste smokey sock old crap.

Poured from a bottle to a very dark mahogany color that has a head that only is clinging to the edges. The aroma is strong and is like old wood and alcohol. The taste seems complex with an earthyness to it. Has a slight taste figs with toasted malts and the slightest bit of alcohol at the end. This to me is a really good scottish ale made by some super cool people at a great little brewery in Grand Lake, Co. Definitely worth seeking out.

Sampled from bottle. Pours opaque mahogany with a scattered light tan head. Its aroma is great: drak pitted fruits, raisin, peated malt. The flavor is equally complex. It's slightly sweet and quite fruity. Mocha is there too. Really, too fruity for the style and a little hot. Full-bodied and lightly carbonated. A nice sipper.

Pours dark brown with scattered head. Roasted malt and alcohol dominate the aroma. They are also present in the flavor alongside a molasses sweetness and a hint of chocolate. Complex, rich, delicious: one of the tastiest scotch ales I've sampled. Medium bodied with a somewhat visous mouthfeel and light warming affect.

Bottle. Poured a dark purplish-brown color with a medium light-brown head. Good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, brown sugar, and toffee. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is complex, with a nice blend of brown sugar, malt, and wood. Very nice Scottish ale, along the lines of Old Chub. Thanks to Caddylac for this bottle.

Poured a mahogany color with a thin, off white head that quickly diminished, leaving very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked peat, caramel malt, candy sugar, light spices, dark fruits, and some nuts. Taste of Smoke, wood, caramel malt, with light citrus, and light alcohol as well. Oily mouthfeel, led way to a dry finish. Thanks hopdog!
