Enjoyed at the Syracuse, NY brewpub. Poured a dark brown colour with a beige creamy head and wavy lacing. Aromas of light roasted malts with hints of coffee. Medium-bodied. The taste also has the roasted malts, mild again, with dark fruit notes and molasses. This is an easy drinking dark lager.

Pours a very dark black hue with a medium sized off-white head that quickly dissipates into a wispy lace. The aroma has a musty caramel aroma with hints of coffee and coca powder. The taste is smooth roasted malt flavor with slight hints of coffee and caramel. Very clean and crisp beer. The mouthfeel is medium body and medium carbonation.

Dark black, tan head. Aroma is malty, smokey and perhaps a hint of coffee. Taste is about what you'd expect from the aroma, but just not very strong in any one way. Mouthfeel is on the thin side of creamy. Clean finish, suprisingly easy drinking and not filling for how this beer looks.

This brew style was somewhat of a disapointment. It was as if it was a light Schwarzbier. It was definitely watery, no so full bodied although the roast to it was a medium somewhat like a nutrella hazelnut flavor. If thats possible. I had this at their restaurant.

Had this one while waiting for a plane in Colo. Springs airport yesterday. 'Light' black body, decent light tan cap that left some lace. Aroma and flavor had very faint hints of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Mouthfeel was a little watery with a dry finish, I am not a big fan of this brewer, but this was a decent brew.

Comes out of the tap a deep, opaque sable with a thick, fine-bubbled light tan head. Rich aroma is primarily of roast, smoky malt. Strongly smoky flavor has coffee, nutty and caramel hints. Texture is smooth and has a good, strong tingle to it.

Pint from the The Glendale Gordon Biersch. Poured dark mahogany brown (almost black), with a thick creamy tan head. Foam lasted almost the whole pint, and left nice looking lace. Toasted malt smell, a touch of smokiness. Flavor of smoky toasted grain, good balance between sweetness and hop finish. Dry and clean mouthfeel. One of the better schwarz'z I have tried.

16 oz draft with lunch at the Wash, DC restaurant. Compared to Sam Adams Black Lager, GBS is lighter brown (still opaque), with a lighter tan head, more foam (1/2") and more lace. The aroma has an appealing chocolate fudgecicle note to it. There is a subtle, sweet malty taste to this lightbodied and easy drinking lager. This is my new favorite from the Gordon Biersch line.

This was probably the best of the sampler. A black apperance with a reddish hue. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, and licorice. The flavor is quite roasty with some chocolate and coffee. The finish is rather dry. Overall this wasn’t bad at all.

my runner up...smells roasty....nice in the mouth....but is a tad thin...but is user friendly...OK stuff...goes down easy...the brewmaster was nice but it took time to pry him away from his gumbo..
