Appearance is a lovely cloudy brown with a rich head. Aroma is smoky and malty with a yeasty overtone. The lively flavor is rich, malty and smoky. This beer has an edge to it, but it goes down well with some yeastiness in the aftertaste. A good beer to finish a drinking session or to come after dinner.

Completely unimpressive. Ok flavor, but thin. Sweet opening a little cloying with a little lemony citrous middle , finish a little bitter. Gordon Biersch seems to worry more about making pretty beers than tasty beers.

This is a dark brown beer with a soft white head. It has a definite organic smell--kinda grassy. The taste is also grassy with some nuts mixed in there. This is the best beer available at Gordon Biersch in my opinion, but there are definitely better brews out there.

dark, not black though, maybe some purple in it with an off white head that is moderate. Smells much like fresh veggies and some nuts, nutty organic taste to it.

This beer is only available at Gordon Biersch's pubs, which is sad. When this beer was brought to my table, of course, I noted the darkness of color, but something I loved about it was that it wasn't so dark that when held up to light, the tone isn't discernable. The taste of this beer is amazing for a beer so dark. I have not been exposed to enough Dunkle's to know if this is common, but the nutty, smooth flavor of this beer is unbeaten in something so dark. I enjoy a Guinness often, but this beer was a very pleasant change-up, and as it warms, it only gets better. I encourage anyone who finds themselves in San Francisco to swing by the pub at Embarcadero and Harrison and check this beer out. Get a table on the patio, order one of these and some GB Garlic Fries, and sigh as you look over the bay. A wonderful experience!
