Doppelsticke Alt, complex malty & pretty hoppy. Brewed for Freigeistbierkultur at Göller, Zeil am Main. At the annual spring carnival in Düsseldorf, a puppet named Hoppeditz symbolises the sins commited during carnival and is ceremoniously burned on Ash Wednesday. The strong Altbier is named after the puppet, Hoppeditz and has five types of malts ( included one smoked malt to represent the burning ) and five types of hops.

    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 capped bottle. Poured in an old Altbier glass an unfiltered and cloudy reddish-brown coloured Altbier with a short one finger beige foamy head that had a minimum retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, brown sugar, dark bitter chocolate, faint aromatic hops, vinous notes. The flavour is roasted and burnt malts, caramel, brown sugar, spicy, licorice, cooked fruits, raisins, plums, hints of smoke, hoppy bitter. The mouthfeel is light crispy, sweety, light sticky and a well pronounced alcoholic feeling . The texture is oily, in the aftertaste, warming notes. This medium bodied Doppel Altbier has a dry malty, sticky and bitter finish. For sure a DAB, Doppel AltBier, has more power than the classical Altbier and this " Hoppeditz " brewed in Oberfranken for Freigeist Bierkultur shows a real character and can challenge with the German Doppelböcke !
