Very interesting brown ale. Dull, cloudy dark leather brown body with a nice latte foam head that never fades all the way. The aroma is very malty but the hops are AWOL. The flavor is nicely malty with a nice dose of caramel and brown sugar, but it has this odd bit of sourness up front. Luckily that fades before you've even swallowed and your left with a short aftertaste of husky maltiness. Good beer, but would be better without that slight twang.

I was able to get my business done with earlier than I thought, and had to kill quite a few hours in Portland ME, before flying home. Considering the awesome beer scene there, I can think of worse things to do on an early Friday afternoon...! This was one of several beers I had at The Great Lost Bear.
Since I've only had limited exposure to this brewery's beers, I wasn't sure what expect from this one. But when it arrived a dark cocoa-brown, with a thin-but-appealing head of foam on top, my first impression was a positive one.
Ditto for my second and third impression, as this beer pleased both my nose and my palate. Very toasty and filling -- definately no shortcuts taken with the malt-bill, that's for sure. Almost Porter-like, except that this had more of roasted-graininess to it than the norm. All this, and yet not "heavy".
Finishes a little weaker, as it seems to run out of gas as it warms up beyond standard pub-beer temps. Of course, there's a simple solution to that: drink this a little faster! Something this interesting, that's not asking too much, now is it...? ;^)

Cloudy ddep brown body with little head. Sweet malty aroma with a hint of hops and caramel. Sweet malty flavor with a slight hoppy background and a hint of smokiness. Medium bodied and relatively smooth.
