Brewed earlier this week in collaboration with legendary Canadian rock-pop band Barenaked Ladies. Developed and brewed with full participation of members of the band, with artwork designed by BNL keyboardist Kevin Hearn, the beer is described as "a fudge-y Imperial Chocolate stout with an 11% ABV that really lives up to its name." BNL Strong Beer is expected to be released in time for the band’s "Symphony Barenaked" tour, which kicks off in Vancouver on November 30th, and will see them playing shows from coast to coast with local symphony orchestras, performing holiday songs and BNL favourites. BNL Strong Beer will be available in 750 ml bottles, with distribution confirmed for liquor retailers in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, and negotiations underway for British Columbia.

Pours a very thick mocha coloured foamy head and has a very dark brown appearance, looks like chocolate milk. Huge aromas of chocolate, toffee, cocoa and mild coffee. Dark chocolate and cookie dough flavours at the forefront. Alcohol is noticeable but quite subdued being a 10%abv beer. Not offensive at all. Sort of a light French vanilla cappuccino taste in the finish. Slick and mildly creamy mouthfeel. Very sweet and somewhat bitter mouthcoating sensation. Held onto this one for approx. 6 months. It was like a liquid dessert. Great!!

Single in a box at the LCBO, with 10% ABV. Pours a real dark brown with very little highlights. Big chocolate pudding aroma with the cacao powder, hints of plum pudding and nuts. Medium-full bodied with a smooth oily and creamy mouthfeel. Starts on a sharp note with the roasted malts and mild bitter hops, to then go into the chocolate cake, molasses and finish on a slight dry hoppy lingering end. Amazingly not too sweet and not too heavy. What an awesome dessert beer (which it was not limited).

Bottle: pours a dark opaque black wth a 2 finger cocoa colored meringue cap. Modest carbonation. Aroma is massive – pungent and fills the room with malty- cocoa aromas like a chocolate bundt cake just taken from the oven. The mouth feel is rich and viscous, The flavour is intense but not complex ( I think this isn intended with thiskind of big brew). The front is dominated by cocoa-maltiness wih enough roasty astringence nd hop bittering t keep the sweetness at bay, The long rich finish goes a tad dry and then you get big coffee flavors near the end. What a brew! Big win with this Peter, makes Young’s double chocolate stout and Southern tier CB seem pale by comparison.

The beer pours a solid black colour with a generous brown head and a beautiful cascading action. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, and some vanilla hints. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and well carbonated. Flavour is rich chocolate, black cherry, and hints of vanilla and alcohol. A very rich and heavy beer. Definitely an all-night sipper. Marked down for overall because $13.95 is too much for 750ml. 750ml of Witches Brew and 750ml of LTM Oktoberfest cost $13.15 combined on the same trip!
