Eclipse black with a decent initial foamy head that faded quickly, and left spotty lacing. Thinnish mouthfeel, with plenty of tingling carbonation. Fragrance is roasty malts with a coffee undertone, matched in the flavor, with the addition of some bitterness in the dry finish. Above average throughout, but IMHO, not remarkable in any attribute.

NorCal tasting Jan 07 - Received in a trade with Dansting. Before we popped the bottle, we all had a good laugh at the bottle's label. Interesting stuff! The pour was a deep, deep brown practically black head with a beige head. Aroma was strong on the coffee side, some toffee but mostly coffee. Mouthfeel was creamy with a chewy mouthfeel. Flavors were mostly coffee as well with a little more toffee character than the nose. Definitely a nice beer.

Very nice stuff, thanks to Dansting for the bottle. Bottle claims to be "Always fresh. Sometimes too fresh." Not sure what that means, especially without a bottling date to verify such a claim. Sigh... Anyway, on to the beer. Pours a near-black brown with a thin tan head with sporadic lacing. Aroma is strong coffee, chocolate, almonds, and toffee, seems somewhat subdued though. Flavor begins with a pleasant sweetness, light caramel and toffee, lightly smoky and roasty coffee, followed by bitter dark chocolate, more roasty coffee, toasted almonds, and a light grassiness. Finishes dry, with roasted malt lingering. Extremely drinkable, I'm very impressed with the amount of flavor packed into this little stout.

Bottle. Poured a blackish-brown color with a thick light-brown head. Light lacing. Aroma of coffee. Nice mouthfeel. Flavor is malty with a chocolate and coffee aftertaste. Now that it's finally available in bottles, I'm excited.
