Full bodied with rich flavours of toffee, chocolate and coffee. With lactose and Arlington 5 cold-brew coffee, it has just enough sweetness to balance the subtle bitterness.

On tap (nitro) at the brewpub. Pours an average size but very thick, frothy tan head, with sprinkles of chocolate on the top. Has a deep dark amber coloured appearance. Aromas are distinctly sweet and chocolatey, some earthy and resin notes. Flavours are equally on the sweeter side of things, would be sweet even without the added choco toppings. Mild roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, cacao nibs. A little bit of hop bitterness on the palate, quite subtle. Good stuff.

Enjoyed on tap with nitro and chocolate shavings this week when it came out. Now, having from the bottle. Pours a hazy, deep amber colour with light beige frothy head, good retention and some patchy lacing. Chocolate malt nose with coffee hints. The taste was sweeter on tap with the real chocolate. Here, it is showing some strong bitterness in the finish, for a brown ale. Still, some mild sweetness, nuttiness and the coffee is even milder. Enough going on to keep it interesting. Nice to have a local coffee used as well - fresh from a block away.
