(100% Colorado Whiskey Barrel Aged) Release three has a lot of nice, warm bourobn flavors from the whisky cask aging. The entire batch dries out the perceived sweetness of the caramel malt leaving an almost scotch like taste, with smoke, bourbon, brandy, hints of vanilla, wood, aged fruit from the Belgian yeast and some peat. The Malt Weyermann Pilsner, Maris Otter Pale, Cherry Wood Smoked Malt, Caramel 60, Demerara Rough Cut Candy and Barley Flakes. The Hops Perle, Sterling and Tettnang. 10.5% ABV

Pours translucent caramel with minimal head. Aroma features smoky, toasty, stonefruit and butterscotch notes. Flavor gives smoky, sweet butterscotch, stonefruit and fresh malt. Texture yields decent body and peppy fizz. Smokin'.

A big ol beer for sure, lots of sweetness dominates but flavors of vanilla and smoke along with Belgian nuances round this out. A bit murky in the glass but it was a decent dessert beer.

Another bottle picked up at Epic in SLC. Pours a dark, thick brownish colour. Aroma is hard to get around. Smoke, sweet malt on the nose. Taste is smokey, oaked and in you face. Big beer for big folks.

22oz bottle, release #8, 9.5% ABV. Pours a hazy copper with a small fizzy off white head that quickly goes to a thin collar.
The aroma is sweet bready malts, some fruit and some peaty liquid smoke.
The flavor is sweet caramel malts and dark fruits, some Belgian yeast, and a lot of peaty smoke. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, there's a lot of smoke. I like how it interacts with the other flavors - makes for nice complexities. -

The strength of the Belgian Ale base gets masked by an enticing light smokiness. Mottled brown body and a thin head. Medium bodied and wonderfully rich with a smooth finish. Mild smoke, dried fruit, toast and chocolate. Nice combination.

Nifty. Pours thick dark copper with a smidge of tan head that dissipates away. Aroma has whiskey notes. Mouth is smooth and clean, almost too much so. Flavors of Scotch, sweet malt, smoke, and more sweet. This would make a terrific sipper and a dreary winter's night by the fire. Sadly, it was over 100f today, so bad on me for opening it now and not waiting. Has barleywine qualities.
