An assertively hoppy but well-balanced and highly drinkable India Pale Ale, Two Flags IPA pours a slightly hazy, copper with strong citrus and pineapple aroma. Flavours include burnt sugar, grapefruit and lingering resinous hop bitterness. Two Flags is brewed with Ontario barley and organic Red Fife wheat grown and malted in small batches a stone's throw from Ottawa. Dominion City also works with local hop producers who are reinvigorating our province's lost and once-great hop-growing traditions. Originally brewed for British servicemen in India during the Raj, India Pale Ale was a solution to a problem. Traditional ales would spoil on the long journey, so brewers introduced a new style with more hops than English beer drinkers were accustomed. In addition to acting as a natural preservative, the result was a deliciously refreshing beer, perfect for the warm Indian climate. Late 20th century craft brewers rediscovered the style, brewing IPAs with powerful American hop varieties that created exciting new flavours and aromas. Cheers!

Pours a slight hazed amber colour from the can with golden highlights. Warm frothy cap with good retention and very nice creamy-sticky lacing. Very hoppy nose with piney notes, oranges and other woods like cedar. The taste is not as crazy, so goes down nicer than expected. Still the pine hop notes with some citrus and a light caramel base. On the border of a Imperial IPA. Quite well-brewed and smooth overall.

On tap at Fox and Feather, Ottawa. Pours a huge frothy off-white head and has an amber coppery appearance. Thick patchy lacing. Aromas are fruity and grassy hops. Flavours are also quite fruity, notes of light tropical fruits, citrus hops, actually quite a bit malty. Some notes of bready malts as well. Subtle bitterness on the palate, not as strong as expected. Not too bad.
