A bigger, bolder version of our Raison D'Etre. This bulbous brown flavored ale was brewed with boatloads of ol' raisins. Lush and enjoyable now, this flavored ale ages with the best of 'em.

Nice cinnamon brown with a cream color head. Smells of raisons, rum and a slight caramel scent. Tastes of very sweet malt and almost a blood like acidic finish, with lingering sweetness. Nice and warming to the chest. A definite dessert beer.

WARNING: Only drink this under adult supervision. The aroma is of vinegar but the taste is of rasians. But only for the first three sips. After that the high abv shuts down your brain and it's lights out.

Bottled 3/15/07: Bought this at Knightly Spirits/Orlando around 2010 and have been aging since. I have been saving for my 1000th review. Over 6 years old and tastes nice. The alcohol at this ABV% is not really hidden, but blends in smoothly and doesn't have too bad a bit. I guess this improves with age, but I didn't want to go too long at risk of spoiling. Sediment was forming on the inside of the bottleneck, but whipped it off before pouring and it was all good. Flavor of a strong barleywine with sweet raisons lingering on the end. Aroma almost like a sour. I wouldn't say this is my favorite barleywine that I've sampled...but a damn good beer that now has some sentimental value.

This is an awesome beer. It delivers a great punch of aroma and flavour. A dark brownish-red pour with a thin head. The aroma was dark fruit, caramel malt and wood notes. The flavour was full with a fruit sharpness balancing out the sweet malt tones. I liked this a great deal.

i think this one was around 18% but i'm not sure of that or the vintage. when i think of wordwide stout, i think of the raisiny sweetness, but no more. this beer redefines that term in the flavor and aroma. holy cow! surprisingly one dimensional in that regard but very tasty sipper. i'm guessing it had at least a little age on because for how strong it is, it wasn't hot. very smooth, a little thick and sticky, but in a nice throat coating way. for around $10, probably can check this one off and move on, thanks to Pfoxyjohn, but I am glad to have tried it.

From time to time a bottle happens to be opened amongst the Canton area tastings. High gravity and a plethora of flavors do create a wonderful sipper. Age seems to really help push the favorable aspects of this massive brew. It's worth seeking out and plunking down for.

Split $9.99 12 oz bottle with SWF under a starlit night on his new deck. Pours a cloudy, hazy amber, with only the faintest wisp of short-lived foam and no lacing at all. Huge malty taste. This beer is all flavor. Very thick mouthfeel, I would compare it to cough syrup. Afterflavors feature a zippy sweetness from the raisins. This is ideally an after dinner drink. Our setting on the deck, under the stars, on a cool spring evening was actually custom-made for this brew. This may not be my cup of tea, but I admire it--and the adventurous mind that crafted it.

Dang skippy what a beer. I just played a fool an opened this without knowing it was a 20 per cent barley wine. But oh well, I'll be raisin d'extra ruckus when I'm through. It's got this lingering flavor of some smokey malt, the liquid is thick and it's just a very fine quality strong ass barley wine. Should be shared and thoroughly enjoyed, and not taken for granted as just another ordinary beer.

I am looking forward to this one. Aroma on this one is of caramelized brown sugar and candied dark fruit with some stronger hoppy bitter coming through as well as some tartness. Appearance is a cloudy and darker, red to rustic-orange in color when held to the light with a full head on top that is off-white in color and leaves uneven lacing on the that is creamy and smooth. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and hearty and very well-rounded with nice harmony between complex maltiness and balanced bitterness with a palate that is clean and wet-like and thick. Flavor is of dark fruits as well as some caramelization with an aftertaste that is rich and smooth with some faint molasses and a finish that is honey-like and creamy with no alcohol coming through at all which is surprising. Overall, a fantastic barleywine here and highly recommended and a must for any beer geek.

NorCal Feb '08 - Good God. Did someone dump wood grain alcohol into this mess before bottling, because it sure in the hell tasted like it. This would get 3's across the board (and that's being generous) but it did have a nice appearance in the glass. But damn, what an f'n abomination. It was like drinking alcohol-infused cough syrup like Robitussin or something. Just...bleeccchh. Give's me the willies just thinking about this evil concoction.

The beer pours out dark mahogany/smoky brown color with a thinnish wisp of a head. Aroma was raisins, Robtissun, and alcohol/solvent/Gunk remover. It wouldn't suprise me if this thing loosens rusty bolts or removes graffiti from bathroom walls. The alcohol aroma and taste was simply too damned much. A vile raisin/prune puree with alcohol is about the only thing I could get from this beer. If they were trying to get alchol, they succeded because this might just be the hottest beer I've ever had.

For DFH I was not impressed. I had a real hard time even drinking this. A for effort. The Full Full Full Body was not good. This beer is way too sweet.
