This special ale has been developed in honour of the brewing in the late Middle Ages when the farmers could not work in the fields during the winter months and therefore had time to devote themselves to brewing ale. Winter Koninck is a deep amber-coloured top-fremented ale with 6.5% Alc. vol. and a full-bodied flavour.

Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Brown colour, moderate off-white head. Typical sweetish aroma of Belgian brown ale, notes of brown kandij sugar. Fairly sweet flavour, brown kandij sugar, mild spicy notes.

Clear copper with off-white lacing foam head. Aroma is light caramel with barley. Taste is barley, some hay, leather. Short aftertaste. Little dissapointed in this beer. (Velp 201401)

This is not a great beer, nor a good beer, but it is worth trying. It pours a solid burgundy colour with a tan head. Sweet malt, dark fruit, spices, and yeast dominate the weak aroma. The sweet malt overpowers everything else in the flavour and renders this beer very one dimensional.

best before 06 09 08 ..... looks like diet coke ... pours with a low head ..."ya, whatever mother fucker" ... slightly fizzy on the tongue ... dusty, old golden syrup, calorie free chocolate flavours ... disappointing to say the least... not worth the anticipation or money, so many better belgians out there...

Sampled this one at my boss's post holiday gathering at his house. The big head rests on top of an amber hue. Notes of a crunchy maltiness, oak barrels, and peat, with high alcohol are present (but this one is only 6.5% ABV). Thought that was a wee bit odd. The finish was kind of dry and bitter. I thought it was like regular DeKoninck only not as flat. But that isn't saying much either.

Bottled@Kerstbierfestival, Essen. Amber colour, not much head. Aroma is hops, malts and earth. Flavour is the same, quite sweet flowery and fruity hops along with some mild vanilla added.

Dark burnt orange going red in colour with tons of long lasting effervesance, light, fizzy looking cream coloured head and excellent lacing. Aroma is airy (the De Koninck glass may not be the best glass to capture the scent) with weak sweet malt & some un-nameable spice, faint prune and something that smells kinda like a gym shoe. Complex mild tastes of cherries, oranges, clove and other spices and malt. Mouthfeel is borderline thin, but has everything from softness to dryness to sourness and ends on an almost permanent harsh bitterness (not a powerful one though leaving me confused on what has just happened) that encourages massive salivation. A good medium strength sipper.

deep clear red-amber colour, little head, malt and prune aroma with spicy notes, sweet, quite medium-bodied with a dry malty finish - subtle and pleasant

Bottle. Reddish amber colour with a decent off white head. Aroma is spicey, dark fruits and malty. Same for the taste, plus roasty and peppery contributions. Medium body a bit watery in the finish. Pretty good.
