Dr. George Junne, Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, approached Jeff Crabtree mid summer of 2009 with a unique idea. He proposed if Jeff was interested in the idea to develop a beer that would give fair representation of Dearfield Colorado. The design of the beer was inspired by the style of crops that were produced for the community. After several revisions, the Dearfield Ale was born. A blonde ale brewed with strawberries available shortly in a 22oz limited edition bottle. A majority of the profitable proceeds will be donated to the Dearfield preservation fund to assist the Black American West Museum in stabilizing this great piece of history.

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4
22oz bottle. Pours a clear straw yellow with a small white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is strange. Lots of strawberries with weird off notes (rotten fruit and feet? maybe baby puke).
The flavor is wheaty malts with the same weird rotten strawberry with a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some sharp carbonation.
Overall, lots of weird off notes. The strawberries help cover them somewhat. I did finish the bottle. -

It pours a light golden/amber with fairly thick dark-white head and some lace. A tangy aroma of caramel malts, honey, light hops, citrus blend, light sour apple, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, light hops, honey on buttered toast, citrus blend, sour apple, and some spiciness. Good brew, especially for the price.
