Bomber pours deep dark mahogany with mocha like head. The aroma is pretty big with dark roastiness, some molasses, coffee notes, spicy black licorice and booze at the end of the draw. The taste is similar with rich chewy sweet roasty malts, molasses, black strap molasses and chocolate covered sweet maltiness. It gets more coffee and chocolate to midway and not much sense of the big ABV at least in the flavor. Yummy rich bold nearly smooth brew that blends together and doesn’t create really any stand out or obtrusive flavor notes. Just a lot of yum going on here.

Bottle at Korean homebrewers meet up: Poured a black brown with light bubble head. Aroma is chocolate. Taste is more chocolate with a very hot alcohol presence. A little to hot to fully enjoy what it may offer.

RBESG 2016 in Barcelona. Shared bottle at BrewDog bar. Russian imperial stout, 12.5%. Pitch black colour, tan head. Roasty aroma and flavour, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and oak. Well hopped, some smoke. Slightly warming mouthfeel, but dangerously easy drinking for its strength. Excellent beer.

As black as it gets, with a small persistent head and reasonable lacing. Roasty aroma, oak and leather. Char like flavours of burnt coffee, oak and ash. Dark chocolate, dark fruit, slightly bitter. Smooth almost full mouthfeel with alcohol warmth. Good old Clown Shoes. (Oops forgot the licorice).

A very black stout that is a little hoppy like most imperials. Not so much bitter as it has more of a bite. Smells and taste a little like molasses with a hint of licorice. I think the bite comes from the high Abv.

On tap at 10 East -

I'm pretty sure this was my first shot at Clown Shoes. It was either this or the Chocolate Sombrero. The beer has a look that is pitch black, ruby edges when held up to the sun with a dark brown head. The aroma reminded me in some ways of SA's Triple Bock with notes of soy, tons of roasted malt, alcohol, subtle smokiness and a little black licorice. Medium sweetnes left on the palate, massive roasted notes with some molasses, soy sauce and dark dried fruits. Seriously decadent beer.

Shared bottle from Moderhead. Mahogany black pour, tight tan head, nice lacing. Deeply roasted malts, anise and coffee nose and initial taste, near burnt molasses and heavy dose of earthy hops follows leaving a burnt bitter linger. Big and bold. Thanks Dan.

Procured this one about a year ago - deep black pour wih a thick walnut colored head. Strong aromas of licorice and anise. Thin mouthfeel for an imperial stout, but an extremely complex brew. Notes of vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, and deep roastiness almost boardering on smoke. Certainly a better beer at room temperature as the complexities and nuances shine.
