RBESG 2016 in Barcelona. Shared bottle at BrewDog bar. Russian imperial stout, 12.5%. Pitch black colour, tan head. Roasty aroma and flavour, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and oak. Well hopped, some smoke. Slightly warming mouthfeel, but dangerously easy drinking for its strength. Excellent beer.

As black as it gets, with a small persistent head and reasonable lacing. Roasty aroma, oak and leather. Char like flavours of burnt coffee, oak and ash. Dark chocolate, dark fruit, slightly bitter. Smooth almost full mouthfeel with alcohol warmth. Good old Clown Shoes. (Oops forgot the licorice).

A very black stout that is a little hoppy like most imperials. Not so much bitter as it has more of a bite. Smells and taste a little like molasses with a hint of licorice. I think the bite comes from the high Abv.

On tap at 10 East -
I'm pretty sure this was my first shot at Clown Shoes. It was either this or the Chocolate Sombrero. The beer has a look that is pitch black, ruby edges when held up to the sun with a dark brown head. The aroma reminded me in some ways of SA's Triple Bock with notes of soy, tons of roasted malt, alcohol, subtle smokiness and a little black licorice. Medium sweetnes left on the palate, massive roasted notes with some molasses, soy sauce and dark dried fruits. Seriously decadent beer. -

Shared bottle from Moderhead. Mahogany black pour, tight tan head, nice lacing. Deeply roasted malts, anise and coffee nose and initial taste, near burnt molasses and heavy dose of earthy hops follows leaving a burnt bitter linger. Big and bold. Thanks Dan.

Procured this one about a year ago - deep black pour wih a thick walnut colored head. Strong aromas of licorice and anise. Thin mouthfeel for an imperial stout, but an extremely complex brew. Notes of vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, and deep roastiness almost boardering on smoke. Certainly a better beer at room temperature as the complexities and nuances shine.

Fantastic! Pours black as can be with a very minute bit of lacing. Roasty. Tons of licorice, coffee. Clown Shoes is my new favorite brewery, they just don't disappoint.

A really nice imp. Smells very roasty, boozy, sweet, molasses, chocolate and lots of anise. Looks deep black/brown, nice head. Flavor is bitter coffee, chocolate, cocoa nibs, booze, a discernable resin and a milky-cream type flavor. All the smells and flavors really work together and seem quite balanced.

pretty nice brew. a little abrasive, perhaps, moreso because of the hops and overall flavor than because it's 12.5% (which is actually covered quite nicely). lots of chocolate malt flavor and aroma, coffee, molasses, and roast. smoother as it gets warmer.

A deep black colored beer with a medium sized, frothy dark brown head. There's some hang time. Thick ringlet and thick splotches of film are left. Burnt chocolate in the nose. Burnt malt, chocolate and some coffee in a thick bodied, oily-syrup bodied beer. I love the style. I like this beer
