Like Moosehead Pale Ale and Moosehead Lager, I have a sneaky suspicion that Clancy’s Amber and Clancy’s Red are the same beer in differently labelled bottles. The first giveaway is that neither beer is really all that red or amber in colour, more of a pale gold with orange hues. Again, the aromatic base is bready malt with very weak hints of caramel. The flavour does nothing to remind me of a Vienna style lager.

This is a decent beer that doesn;t taste that bad. It's not a world beater though. A decent copper coloured beer that has a sweet malt aroma and a hint of hops. The flavour is sweet malt and a little bit of skunk.

Like Pootz below me stated, this beer does have a great cap, although it's colour is amber, not red. Hmmm, I guess it is the same beer as Clancy's Amber Ale then. Very subtle burnt aroma - you really have to sniff to notice it. The taste and body though reminds of those buck-a-beer macro swill pale lagers we get here. Best to sample right out of the can. Don't bother pouring into a glass - becomes very watery.

Could have sworn I had this on tap last summer in Halifax....perhaps this is "Clancy’s amber" in a new tarted up can sold into the Ontario market....but got some in cans from the LCBO: Pours a clear medium amber color in the glass...decent 3 finger frothy cap lasts well and laces. (Extra points for the cap and lacing) Aromas of fresh bread, caramel and wet hay...decent for a macro. Medium body, thin mouth feel, smooth malty caramel character. Good dose of bready malts in the front, hops really trimmed back,... midway the body thins out though and it turns sweet ... finishes with a sweetish caramel-toasty taste with a whisp of hops showing up....light drying after taste. Not bad, unspectacular, a tad sweet and undefined but smooth and malty and I like that quality. As these red macro beers go, I prefer this one best....seems good to wash down a plate of steamed clams at any franshise restaurant-pub.
